Best Bars for Smoking in London

Smokers, sneaky tokers and good intention vapers...

BOISDALE OF BELGRAVIA With its very own cigar terrace, you can light up in comfort at this famous whisky joint. Comedy-size cigars and fat-cat stereotypes, we encourage. Throw on a pin-stripe suit and tell them BarChick sent you. 15 Eccleston Street, Belgravia, SW1W 9LX

SOHO HOUSE This is the place for lighting up in style – with a roof deck and a terrace overlooking the sweeping rooftops of Soho, you can’t really go wrong. Ok, there is a downside: it’s a private members’ club exclusively for those in the film and media industries... but chances are you know someone with a membership so sweet talk 'em into taking you. 40 Greek Street, London, W1D 4EB

THE GROUCHO CLUB This old skool classic, celeb-loving members’ club just got hipper with their nicely covered terrace out the back. If you were thinking stuffy gentleman’s club, you’ve got the wrong place. 45 Dean St, London, W1D 4QB

VISTA AT THE TRAFALGAR This sexy rooftop terrace has year-round views of Trafalgar Square; they even give you blankets in winter. Bring a date and you can have a tote without killing the romance. No date? Ask to borrow a lighter… BarChick’s seen that one work too many times. 2 Spring Gardens, Trafalgar Square, London, SW1A 2TS

VENN STREET RECORDS This funky record-shop styled bar has a host of friendly staff that mix up some pretty tasty drinks. They have a brilliant two-for-one happy hour (5-7pm) so turn up early and get stuck in. There’s a massive, cosy outside smoking area – you won’t feel left out in the cold, it’s almost the size of the bar! 78 Venn Street, London, SW4 0BD

THE LOUNGE BAR, SANCTUM SOHO HOUSE There are few things that BarChick loves more than a bar that’s open 24hrs a day, seven days a week. And this is one of the best of them. They describe it as a smoker’s sanctuary... and it also has an alfresco Hydro-Spa. Yes, you just died and ended up in bar heaven. 20 Warwick Street, Soho, London, W1B 5NF

CENTURY CLUB The enclosed smoking area will make you feel like you shouldn’t be lighting up. And what could be better than that? You may need some serious sweet-talking to work your way into this members’ club, but it’ll be worth it. 61-63 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, W1D6LQ

AQUA KYOTO This place takes trendy seriously and there’s a good chance that the food will be better dressed up than you… but the view is what makes it worthwhile. Bring a pack of Vogues and you’ll fit right in. 5th Floor, 240 Regent Street (Entrance on 30 Argyll Street), London, W1B 3BR

EL CANTARA They claim to have Soho’s only private terrace. Lay the fags aside and try one of their Shishas – they have a load of flavours to choose from, including champagne-filled with grape tobacco. Is it just shameful waste of good alcohol? Quite possibly, but it’s definitely a new experience. 45 Frith Street, Soho, London, W1D 4SD

MILK & HONEY One of the less threatening members’ bars – call ahead, talk the talk and you should be able to slip in just fine (until 11pm). Their roof terrace is ideal for kicking back and sparking up. Smoking is compulsory – the owner says so! 61 Poland Street London, W1F 7NU

TRAMP This member’s club is more exclusive that one of Rihanna’s birthday parties (she seems to have two a year)… but try chatting up one of the members outside and they may just slip you in. The recently opened outdoor smoking terrace is quite something – apparently. 40 Jermyn Street St. James's, London, SW1Y 6DN

THE WOOLPACK Down-to-earth and dog friendly, this boozer is perfect for a few pints and a smoke in the garden – heaters included. But don’t spend all of your time outside or you might miss their incredible painted ceiling. 98 Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 3UB

THE CHAMBERLAYNE Somewhere between a pub and a steakhouse, this is the local that you wish you had round the corner – unless you live in Kensal Rise. They source all of their meat locally from Smithfield market and the menu is mouth-watering. This isn’t the place to be pinching fags off of strangers, bring a fresh packet and settle in for the long haul. 83 Chamberlayne Road, Kensal Rise, London, NW10 3ND

THE REGENT Simply put, this is a pub that you will not want to leave. Inside, it’s cosier than your Nan’s living room and the garden is stylishly decked out with marble tables and three private Cabanas. If you can’t pull a date in one of those, give up and buy a boat – you won’t be needing society anymore. 5 Regent Street, Kensal Green, London, NW10 5LG

THE LANSDOWNE CLUB If you prefer to sit down and have your drinks come to you, hit The Lansdowne Club and go lounge around in their outdoors courtyard. You may feel the urge to use an extra-long cigarette holder – once you’ve solved the private membership problem. 9 Fitzmaurice Place Mayfair, London, W1J 5JD

THE WATER POET With a large enclosed garden that serves hog roast most Saturdays and another sheltered, heated area for the winter, this is truly a smoker’s pub. 9-11 Folgate Street, Spitalfields, London, E1 6BX

THE MADDOX CLUB Step off of the dance floor and straight into the large outdoor courtyard– there’s no messing around in this club. Designed just as much for smoking as going on the pull, the plants, seating and night sky will mean that you can enjoy a fag without losing the club atmosphere – you’ll be talking star signs in no time. 3-5 Mill Street, London, W1S 2AU

NETIL 360 If you’ve seen pictures of this place, you can stop reading. No words can truly describe this stunning new roof terrace in the heart of Hackney... there are Yurts (no hints here, you’ll have to Wikipedia those bad boys), plenty of drinks (including hot cocktails) and best of all? On a rooftop you can play chimney. Smoke away! - Make sure you ring up ahead to check what's happening! Netil House, 1 Westgate Street, London, E8 3RL
