Things we love:

The water is so clean you can swim in the harbour baths and you’re never far from a beach. Hello Scandi beach party.

They love a good house/apartment party.

It’s like mecca for barmen, the bars here are up there with the best of them.

There are no public drinking laws; so there are plenty of classic drunken displays, which for once weren’t from BarChick.

They love a speakeasy.

Things we wish we’d known:

They have a freetown called Christiania, which has declared itself autonomous from Danish law. Think some kinda Berlin arty squat meets Amsterdam. They even have a Green Light District where you can openly buy weed. Naughty.

Cycling is the best way of transport here, take note Boris. They’ve got the best cycle lanes in all of Scandinavia.

This is about as divey as places come in CPH, which is hardly surprising seeing as it’s the city’s resident Vice bar. Cue a whole bunch of beards, bedraggled hair and red lipstick in attendance every weekend. Despite the cool Read More

Bang & Jensen

Izakaya Bar

New to the Copenhagen bar scene in early 2011, this is another offering from the Kungfoo gang, Waheed and Neil (legends). They’ve kept it simple inside – less is more with these guys – but they have put a load Read More

Lidkoeb
Lidkoeb

It feels like an oriental den of inequity, from the days of Old Shanghai when life was exotic and dangerous. You half expect there to be a dude in the corner smoking opium (gutted). Past the black curtain, the black-walled bar Read More

Mesteren & Laerlingen
Mesteren & Laerlingen

This used to be where the butchers in the Meatpacking District would come after a long day’s work for a steak sandwich and a beer. But what was one of the oldest bodegas (Danish pub) in town changed owners back Read More

Mikkeller

This brewpub takes their beer seriously, and by seriously, we mean famed and adored by beer geeks across the globe. It all began when maths and physics teacher Mikkel Borg Bjergsø took up home-brewing as a hobby in his kitchen. Read More

Nameless
Nameless

It doesn’t have a name and we didn’t have an address. We figured our odds of finding this place were pretty slim, but ask any Vesterbro local about ‘the nameless’ and they’ll point you in the right direction. It’s nothing fancy. Read More
