Mein Haus Am See

BARCHICK SAYS

This is where the Berlin start-up Mafia come to hang, hot young hipsters are everywhere and creativity is buzzword of the week. Located in the forward thinking Mitte district, this former bookshop is laid-back cool; make eye contact and smile but don’t be too enthusiastic, you want to look aloof and unconcerned by how damn rad everyone is here.

This place is open 24/7 and waitress service means you can really kick back and prepare for the long haul. As you enter, your eyes will be instantly drawn to the back of the room where rows of seating are stacked up on top of each other like an auditorium. The top level is where you want to be; you’ll have the best views and the comfiest seats in the house. The entire place is kitted out in flea-market chic, nothing matches but that adds to the charm.

There’s a tiny list of cocktails but we recommend going for a carafe of wine, it looks cool, tastes good and won’t break the bank. Check out the smoking room too, it’s been thoughtfully segregated from the rest of the bar by a glass divide, so the smokers can smoke and everyone else can remain fresh.
