The Black Horse

BARCHICK SAYS

Situated just across the road from Brighton's Theatre Royal, this absolute gem of a pub is understandably a favourite of 'theatrical types' both actual and euphemistic. In fact, with its regular roster of cabaret and drag acts, The Black Horse is almost a little theatre in its own right. Immaculately tasteful decor, all pale wood and cream walls, give the feel of a beach house, while the twinkling fairy lights which illuminate the little patio garden create a real oasis.

In addition to a good range of wines and premium spirits, The Black Horse also keep Harvey's and London Pride cask ales on tap. There's an excellent food menu too (the home-made pies will be the undoing of BarCock's svelte figure) and for two years running the Sunday roast has been voted Best in Brighton in the city's prestigious 'gay Oscars', the Golden Handbags. Open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, this is a perfect spot for pre- or post-theatre dinner and drinks - hell, it's close enough you could even nip across in the interval. A true star of the scene..
