The Back Bar

BARCHICK SAYS

Nestled somewhere around the back of Ship Street, this is another winning concept from the guys behind 22 Ships. Bar manager and pro-mixologist Neil Rivington (formerly of W Hotel and Soho House Group amongst others) was flown in from London especially to make this one of Wanchai’s hottest locations for cocktail lovers. And that’s just what he did.

This is a dimly lit den of iniquity. The wickedly designed list is based around childhood memories and lessons, all written in school exercise books. Cocktails are served in a range of glassware and other receptacles such as miniature Le Creuset-style cooking pots complete with mini whisks. Sit around the large, square steel bar for a view of the expert cocktail making, or tuck yourself away in one of the little alcoves. An ingeniously designed one-way mirror allows you to look into one of the other bars on Ship Street, but they sure as hell can’t see you – comedy ensues.
