BARCHICK SAYS

This venue/bar/eatery has been lifted straight out of London’s Shoreditch and plonked nicely in a discreet backstreet just off the Northern Quarter in Leeds city centre. With some cool dudes running the show, this century old assembly hall has transformed into quite the smart hangout.

Upon entering the ground floor bar you will – before anything else – be hit by the unmistakable smell of trendy, gourmet junk food (excellent). In-house residents Doughboys supply an eccentrically named range of pizza slices using a combination of either the best quality Italian or most locally sourced produce, and all for around £2 a pop. BarChick had the Screaming Goat (a flamboyant concoction of creamed goats cheese, caramelised walnuts and roasted beetroot), and it hit the spot.

The interior sports the traditional East London/Lower East Side Manhattan uniform; reclaimed furniture, distressed paintwork with the inner workings of the building peeping through in various places - industrial chic, babes. Check out the top floor rooftop garden if you really want to see this place play, it’s ace. Faux grass, decorative picket fencing and a few heated garden sheds to chill in… it goes without saying that this is BarChick’s fave spot EVER.
