With 40 years of drinking-serving experience under their belt, Procopio remains as special as it reportedly was back in the 1970s. In its heyday it was a centre for Lisbon’s left-fields movers and shakers including politicians, journalists and visiting creme de la creme visiting foreign celebrities - today it’s still popular with artists, creative, and those on the up.

Enter through a small courtyard near Amorais Gardens, ring the bell (surprise) and you’ll be welcomed into another amazing parlour-bar with the conspirational atmosphere of a prohibition-era bar.

Intellectual types still rock up to debate about the topics of the day and set the world to rights over copious amounts of imported spirits. Lisbon is pretty accepting places but turning up here as a massive group wearing bunny ears won’t win you any favours; choose Procopio for early doors if you can’t resist necking shots later in the night.
