BARCHICK SAYS

Hidden in an old warehouse space near London Bridge, as you walk into the upstairs of Cecil’s you feel like you've stepped onto a glam film set. Dim lights, red lanterns, velvet booths and a roofed bar that gives off the impression that you’re in some sort of oriental courtyard late at night. It’s kinda hot.

The cocktail list is epic, the best in this part of town, and they start at £6! Or get in a sharer for £25. Our favourite was the New York of the West – Makers Mark stirred with Umeshu and a dash of Mandarin Napoleon. And do ask to try one of the boozy plums – it’s the only food you’re gonna get down here.

The crowd is anyone’s guess: big parties, city boozers, hot dates, they’re all here but at the weekend it’s time to party down in the basement. Saturday nights are about live jazz and swing but you’ll find BarChick by the stage on a Friday when the live show gets outrageous: expect stripping nuns and dancing ‘til the early hours. We’re even hearing rumours of a sex party night, stay tuned.

Rolling with a big crowd? Don't sweat it, hire the private room to the side of the stage and have your own party without missing any of the action.
