Inn the Park

BARCHICK SAYS

We were lucky enough to be led to this very special little haven by a pair of black swans, seems like they know a good hangout when they see one. This stunning wooden café restaurant nestles perfectly into the beautiful St James’ park, and is the prettiest place for afternoon tea, lunch or weekend breakfast (and dinners come Summer) that you could hope to chance upon.

Sitting right next to the park’s ponds, it has a curved wooden front, which extends to the floors, walls, ceiling and spaceship like lights. Sit in the open air out front (brave the cold, the view is worth it) or stay indoors and look out. Eat soft boiled duck egg for breakfast, roasted wild sea bass for lunch and beautifully fluffy cakes for tea.

At first we just thought it was the perfect place to take Granny to tea, until we came across the cocktails, they’re impressive, then again with Nick Strangeway involved it's no surprise. Drink the Nettle Gimlet made with foraged nettles from the park, homemade rosehip cordial and Grey Goose vodka or the delicious Crab Apple & Elderberry Sour with homemade gin shrub, egg white and lemon. Bring all your friends, we promise you’ll love it as much as we do, oh and be sure to play guess the nationality with the barman, had us stumped for hours.
