La Cabina

La Cabina

BARCHICK SAYS

Look for the weird ‘phone booth/cash dispenser/TARDIS keypad’ where Manero’s used to be and that’ll be your ticket. Enter the secret code, swing the door open and down the semi-steep stairs you go.  Pow. La Cabina has makeshift Barcelona bar written all over it, the kind of spot you’d find down an alley off Las Ramblas where all the locals go to listen to Manu Chao and drink under neon lights and a tin tile ceiling. They’re still keeping with East London vibes though with the exposed brick, filament bulbs and a crowd to match the postcode.

It’s no bigger than a living room in a Hackney flat, but there are plenty of nooks in which to chill. Like the booth covered in faux wolf fur and massive Union Jack flag where the owner reckons hobbits and wizards would booze. If you’re coming by at 3am hit the Sevilla style tapas snacks before hometime. This ain’t no Barrafina baby, but they’ve got spot on roasted chorizo in red wine, and churros & chocolate. Just what you want at that hour. You can even dance it off to the bangers being spun by some renowned DJ or other in the corner.

What BarChick’s here for are the cocktails, and they’re wicked. Saffron-infused gin and proper old school anti-malarial tonic should be round one and if you’ve got a sweet tooth opt for a Spanish Man O’ War. Got a mate who’s not into cocktails? Steer ‘em toward the Sagres.
