Across the road from the sexy-sounding Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens lurks The Black Dog, crushing the standard boozers that surround it by giving its patrons great food, great drinks and great vibes. Inside, it’s all shabby chic, packed-in tables and staff with big smiles; charming, friendly and happy to tell you what’s hot on their ever-changing menu.

The open kitchen gives you a nice nose in at what’s going into your Scotch egg and pork pie whilst you’re sipping on one of their real ales, ciders or "continental" lagers, or get stuck into the wine list.

The Black Dog’s garden is small but perfectly formed, but word on the street is that you can even get your booze and bites to takeaway to the Pleasure Gardens if the sun’s really out. Just make a note that they’re only open to bookings on Saturday nights, so no rocking up out of the blue or you’ll be sent away disappointed.
