BARCHICK SAYS

The Rum Kitchen has landed in Soho and it’s just as hot as its older brother, all you media types/shoppers will question how you ever lived without your daily rum ration. Head upstairs in Kingly Court towards the party, leave your worries at the door and (with a little bit of imagination/a lot of rum) welcome to the Caribbean. We can tell this beach shack is always going to be rocking, T.G.I Fridays better watch its back because in here it’s always the weekend (until you wake up late for work the following morning, bottle of rum down, bed company up). The crowd is hot, as are the bartenders in their black Hawaiian shirts, and the reggae beats are as free flowing and generous as the rum itself. The walls are stripy and blue, the ceiling is made up of tin barrels, the bar is tiled and there’s lot of wood drifting about, the only thing missing is sand and sea. When in Rome drink rum (in cocktails). We worked our way through the list, they were all good and rummy: some sour, some sweet and others as strong as an ox. Big up to the Rum Punch, it certainly packs one. When you spy the open kitchen you’ll want in on the action, BarChick recommends the sticky BBQ ribs, the jerk chicken wings and the curried mutton, don’t be afraid to get messy. If you’re looking for a little bit of sunshine this winter, this is where you’ll find it. Take a bow boys.
