The Toucan

BARCHICK SAYS

This drinking den is the real deal. As you’d expect, the Guinness is amazing, plus they pour em nice n proper, no rushing it, but with 6 taps on each floor that won't slow you down. This place pays true homage to Guinness with posters and toucans stuck and perched in every orifice, plus it’s the perfect place to watch sh*t daytime TV (NB bring your glasses as the screen is as small as the downstairs area).

This Soho institution is pretty miniature and usually overflowing onto the streets, so if it’s packed inside, get cosy on the curb. Try and get inside though, you may be here for a while; hours seem to disappear in this place. We like to pull up one of the Guinness glass barstools (they are awesome by the way) at the bar and hit the bar snacks (spicy olives and peanuts) or settle down at one of the little tables. Jimi Hendrix once played here, so if it’s good enough for him it’s definitely good enough for you.

This place is known not just for its Guinness, but also for its oysters which are sourced from Rossmore County Cork (not only delicious, also cheap) plus their Irish Stew is as genius as the place itself. But hey, if oysters aren’t your bag then order up the baked beans - fine by them.
