The Gin Room

BARCHICK SAYS

Madrid is having a bit of a gin moment. Gin bars are popping up all over the place and everyone is suddenly knocking back that oh-so-English spirit. But hell, we’re English and we're running with it.

The Gin Room is the best of them all. Located in the Prado/Retiro area, it’s secluded and specialist attracting Madrileños in need of an after work gin fix. The large menu features rare gins from all over the place, paired with a carefully selected garnish to match their complex or subtle flavours – think cinnamon, green apple, liquorice or even edible gold for those who like some extravagance in their mouth. They do have other spirits on offer, but ordering anything else is a bit like ordering steak at the fish market. We loved our bowl of jelly sweets which accompany every drink, though the hungry can order more gourmet tapas.

The décor is ultra-chic. There is the anatomically correct horse lamp by Philippe Starck greeting you as you enter and the walls are decorated with empty picture frames that are the definition of minimalism. The bar sports white rooms with black and golden accents and long leather chesterfield sofas that are just perfect for a large group of friends. Let the gin games begin!
