Mimi's in the Marigny

BARCHICK SAYS

The Marigny has some of the most fun yet low-key nightlife in the city, and this little gem is at the heart of it. A random mash up of dive bar, tapas joint and music venue, it fulfils all your needs in one mad package.

With unfinished walls, arcade games and a pool table, the downstairs room has a classic dive bar feel apart from the lovely old saloon style building it’s located in. Signs read ‘Be nice or leave’ and there’s a jar of condoms by the door for when you get lucky (which we’re guessing, is pretty often here). The crowd is mixed and super friendly.

Upstairs can be more civilised with no smoking indoors and table seating if you want to dig into the excellent Spanish food. This may not look like the type of place you should eat, but trust us. Or indeed, trust them and order the ‘Trust Me’ on the menu. There’s a stage in the corner with nightly live music, and a dance floor that gets raucous over the weekend. Last time we went, couples were swing dancing in the middle of the room and the dude behind the bar was making us some deadly generous cocktails.
