Birreria

BARCHICK SAYS

A brewery and a bar on a roof terrace, hell yeah. Welcome to Birreria! The place to hang come rain or shine – it has a retractable glass roof, naturally. The icing on Mario Batali’s mega Italian food and wine extravaganza Eataly, skip the touristy queues and head up to the 14th floor instead (the lifts are at the very back of the shop).

Sit at the bar and order a carafe of wine straight from the massive casks stored right in front of you, or take a group, order some pitchers and grab a table on the huge wooden floored, hedge lined terrace. Birreria is Italian for beerhouse, so it’s no surprise that they brew their own beer weekly. Beer lovers can work their way through the 43 other beers and ales on offer. The food is great for sharing with platters, charcuteries, cheeses and more substantial mains.

The views aren’t the most impressive unless you love red brick, but if you stand in the right spot you might be able to sneak a peak at the Empire State. It gets super rammed, especially on sunny days, with queues up to 3 hours, so book ahead. Oh and buy some gourmet Italian grub on your way out.
