Catfish

BARCHICK SAYS

Want to take a trip to Dixieland? Then wade through the dodgy bodegas of Crown Heights to Franklin Ave, and soon enough you’ll find this southern-style haven.

BarChick checked out Catfish on a particularly swampy afternoon, and they got a prosecco and absinthe double whammy in us before we could say: yes please! Opened by three bartenders from Dumbo reBar, these boys know what we want, which in our case was a Catfish Po Boy sandwich and Creole Bloody Mary (vodka, tomato juice, beef bouillon, horseradish, Worcestershire, crystal hot sauce, Cajun spice rim and stout float). They can knock out a good Sazerac, and they’re big into their brown spirits here, as well as craft draft beer.

Style wise, think obscure taxidermy with Mardi Gras beads, lots of wood, Southern hot sauces, and dollar bills from all around the globe scattered throughout this caboose of a bar. Head out back for some fresh(ish) air – they’ll be doing an all-you-can-eat crawfish boil in the courtyard if you’re lucky. On the right night you’ll end up in an impromptu ‘cabaret’ of sorts. Just don’t nick the bugle.

NB. Course there’s a happy hour: $1 oysters and $2 off drinks from 4.30pm to 7.30pm every day.
