The Rickety Press

BARCHICK SAYS

Hidden down the back streets in Jericho, this new homely pub/dining room has shaken things up a bit. Sure, it’s a pub, but if you look closely you’ll see that there is so much more to it. The bar is more selective than most with its choice of independent beers and ales on tap, their choice of liqueur is faultless, the dining room is cosy and unfussy and they even have an interesting range of tea (take granny?).

The barmen are hot and happy to mix you up a cocktail if you so wish, when we were there we tucked into a freshly brewed batch of mulled wine, good stuff. Sit at the bar amongst the low lamps, play noughts and crosses, pork out on scratchings, flirt (we did) or read.

Hidden behind the scenes, the head chef is a talented type. Whether you feel like steak or something more exotic (Thai green monkfish curry?) he will serve up something tasty every time. Daily specials are scrawled on the blackboard by the bar, so even if you’re popping in for a drink, you will be enticed into the restaurant. Sit by the fire amongst rows of books and candles flickering on tables, and we promise you might just have the perfect evening.
