Oblaca Bar

BARCHICK SAYS

The Tower Park Praha (formerly Zizkov Tower) has been hated by the locals since its debut in the 80s, mostly for being a souvenir of the communist era. So don't expect your Czech date to join you. 30 years and an extensive makeover later, they have opened Bar Oblaca, an uber modern bar, 66 meters above the ground. Its white seating and futuristic design are in stark contrast to the colourful city buildings that stretch out beneath you. When we visited the 'hits of the 90s' soundtrack was entirely out of place, but it's well worth a visit to check out the highest view of Prague, plus the drinks are pretty good too.

The menu has been created by the guy who won the title of 2011's bartender of the year, he's gone all molecular, a trend that's new to Prague, so expect a list of drinks that make Willy Wonka look old fashioned. The Vermouth based Moravian Rooster arrived in a cloud of cherry wood smoke, and three glass contraptions sit on the bar slowly distilling their signature house spirits - a honey liqueur, thyme Vermouth and house spiced rum. If you like the bells and whistles of molecular mixology there are enough infusions, foams and smokes to keep you busy, for everyone else the bar is well stocked with wines and spirits to keep you happy. Now, let's get back to that view...
