Wine Food Market

BARCHICK SAYS

A bustling, Italian food market in the middle of Prague? Hells yeah it is. Opened in 2010, Wine Food Market does what it says on the tin. It's an Italian grocery store selling wine and food, with a market area surrounded by a bakery, fishmongers, greengrocers, pasta stand, gelateria and wine bar. It's like a piazza in Rome, without the accordion players.

In the large cobblestoned seating area, a dozen or so long, communal tables are surrounded by the food 'stalls'. A high glass roof adds to the outdoorsy feel, and tables are kitted out with colourful cushions, flowers and candles. Order from the various stalls and they'll deliver it to you, ask the fish Chefs for the freshest catch, they'll cook it however you like and bring it to your table, grab a bottle of wine and settle in. Good news is they don't mark up the prices for dining, so you're paying the same retail price to have someone else cook and do the dishes for you. Prego!

On weekend afternoons this place is rammed, so make sure you call ahead. We prefer it in the evening when the pianist adds some tunes and the candles are lit. After dinner take a (short) stroll over to the gelato corner for dessert, and grab some fresh bread and pastries for tomorrow's breakfast. A perfect Italian evening, the only thing missing is a fountain to throw a coin into.
