Pace is undoubtedly one of the most scenic bars in the world. The setting is exquisite with jasmine and ivy draping down its Venetian plastered walls and one of Rome’s most notable churches, Santa Maria della Pace, in the backdrop. The outdoor tables spill out onto the piazetta, along with the crowds and the interiors are full of fresh flowers and antiques.

Unsurprisingly, this place is famous and attracts Rome’s rich and beautiful people, there to eyeball each other, as well as the ogling tourists. It’s not to everyone’s taste; the self-consciousness can feel claustrophobic and the drinks are expensive. But it’s not only an essential part of Roman culture (you’re here for that too, right?), but it’s also pretty impressive. We say, down a couple glasses of prosecco on the outdoor tables, then duck into the church to check out those Raphael frescoes. Culture tick.
