Grandma's Bar

BARCHICK SAYS

Your gran’s gone to bed and your big sister is raiding her drinks cabinet with her hot mates and cooking up a storm. That's what it feels like at Grandma’s bar, hidden below a guitar shop.

It’s just like an intimate house party, complete with a couple at the bar making out and a girl crying in the loos. Retro furniture – check. Pin-up pictures and taxidermy on the walls – check. Cute boys, hot girls and delicious cocktails? - Hell yeah! If, like BarChick, it isn’t the first drinking establishment you've ventured into this evening and you can feel yourself flagging, get yourself a Corpse Reviver Blue containing absinthe, gin, lemon, blue curacao finished off with a dayglo mermaid accessory floating on the glass. It had enough zing to perk up the dead... and (surprisingly) was totally delicious.

The cocktail menu is extensive and inventive from Grandma’s list of favourite tipples, to a dedicated rum section and a Polynesian inspired drinks section served in tiki mugs. But save yourself the reading by chatting up the barmen who are more than happy to make recommendations and mix you up a little of whatever's taking their fancy that day. These guys take their drink seriously. Fans of the Paloma cocktail are in for a treat, at Grandma's it's mixed with their very own homemade grapefruit soda (these guys know their sh*t). Soak up the rum and tequila with a snack, it's jaffles only (Australian for toasties).

By the end of the night after a few Tiki as F*ck cocktails, we were all up and chicken dancing in the front room with no one batting an eyelid. We left the place with new best friends and a pink mermaid in the pocket.
