BARCHICK SAYS

This is a place for nice people to do their drinking without any of the other bullsh*t that comes with some cocktail bars. One of the first places to break out of the Ossington strip onto Dundas West, they’ve still got a great vibe. The bartenders are always chatty and when it isn’t in full on dance party madness mode at the weekends, it’s super relaxed, warm and inviting.

It’s cosy yet classy, doing that compulsory distressed vintage thing – bare brick walls, knick-knacks, antique books and interesting light fixtures (microphones in this case) – but we like the wall of quotes about drinking on the blackboard. Be inspired to booze by everyone from Rodney Dangerfield to Dean Martin.

Sandy de Almeida devised the cocktail menu – as one of the most rockin’ bartenders in town and she has made this place known for its cocktails. The list is strong on bourbon, though we loved the Last Word – like a Gimlet with balls. You get a bunch of industry types and boozehounds in here who know what a good drink is.

Hit it up for the Sunday brunch when soul tunes are spinning, or get a cocktail fix before going downhill in the dive bars and gig venues that now line Dundas.
