Go into gastropub The Irish Heather and speak with the Irish doorman. He’ll invite you in, and point you straight through the bar to the exit out the back. Follow his orders, and then pick your way through the beer kegs in the alley, past an unassuming door to Shebeen. And now stay put.

Trophy cases proudly display vintage whisky ads, statues, bottles and other Irish booze paraphernalia. And that's it for decor. It’s somewhere between a nineties diner and the local American Legion. Whatever, you’re here for the whisky. Around 5pm on a Tuesday night pull up a bar stool, and speak with head bartender, Irishman and self-proclaimed 'whisky nerd' Randy Gaudreau. Shebeen has been around for 17 years, and it's thanks to this man that they still have the best whisky collection in Vancouver. They also pride themselves on pulling the best Guinness in the city – just like the Irish do it, the lines between the keg and the tap are short and cleaned religiously, every second Sunday.
