Café Drechsler

BARCHICK SAYS

Across the street from the incredible, bustling Naschmarkt is the unassuming Café Drechsler, a traditional Viennese coffee house founded in 1919. It was given a little makeover by Sir Terrence Conran in 2007 (which explains the cup & saucer light fixtures) and it’s now a sleek, minimalist designed hangout, filled with locals and market-goers grabbing a coffee or Campari soda on a leisurely Vienna afternoon.

With grey walls, red banquettes and domed ceilings, this place is more modern and sexier than the other classic coffee houses, same goes for the staff. Open virtually around the clock, this place turns into a party spot with DJs and a cool crowd when most of its daytime guests are tucked up in bed.

As with most of the Viennese coffee houses, don't expect too much from the cocktail menu, stick to easy drinks like wine and beer and you'll be happy. If you're looking for killer cocktails then Puff Bar is right up the street.
