Café Schwarzenberg

BARCHICK SAYS

Traditional Viennese coffee house by day, jazzy live music spot by night. Café Schwarzenberg is one of the grandest of the old cafés, with generous windows looking over the street, a crowd of stylish locals breakfasting over giant newspapers and three pages of boozy coffee drinks to keep you tipsy and caffeinated.

Go on one of their jazz nights for some live Cole Porter or Gershwin tunes or check their website and catch the next reading, whenever you go drink Fernet Branca like you know what it is. Apparently the interior hasn't really changed much since it opened in 1861, that and the staff in their black and white uniforms make you feel like you're in another era. When a concert finishes at the nearby Musikverein the place gets pumping, grab a seat on the outside terrace, kick back and enjoy the view of Schwarzenbergplatz.
