You’ve heard it from the BarChicks and now we’ve asked some of the best barmen in the world what their highlights of 2012 have been. They drink in the best bars, definitely know where to go for fun and the advice they have to give is a lot more reliable than what the Mayans have to say. Hells yeah.
FAVOURITE DRINK OF 2012
GEORGE NEMEC, GLOBAL BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR BECHEROVKA - Becherovka/ Tonic aka Beton.
THE IVY CLUB'S NATHAN MERRIMAN - Gin Gibson
OSKAR KINBERG, DABBOUS' BAR DIRECTOR AND BARCHICK CRUSH - Banana liqueur and Zeo with a dill garnish, a genius non-alcoholic drink that gives you the effect of being drunk without being drunk and only a few calories. There goes that excuse... Tastes exactly like a small piece of heaven.
LCC'S JJ GOODMAN AND ALL ROUND BAR MEGASTAR - I think the inform drink of 2012 had to be the "last word", every bartender and his dog was listing/quaffing them down, but i spent most of 2012 drinking "Southside royals"! They're like Pringles... once you pop you can't stop!
NIGHTJAR'S MARIAN BEKE - Pisco Punch
TONY C, WILLY WONKA OF THE BAR WORLD - There is a barman at Bar 45 in the Park 45 Hotel who made the most stunning Lapsang Souchong infused whiskey cocktail. My favorite drink all year. Smoke & Mirrors - Lapsang Souchong Infused Single Malt Scotch, Drambuie, Cherry Morlacco, Lemon
AJAX KENTISH BARCHICKS BARMAN IN NEW YORK - Alistair Reynolds made me one of the best drinks I tasted this year. Made Man - Rye Whiskey, Fernet Branca, Yellow Chartreuse & Cherry Heering.
ZDENEK KASTANEK INTERNATIONAL JETSETTER – Last Word
THE ONE AND ONLY GAZ REGAN - Negroni, in many guises
JAKE BURGER, LEGEND AND MASTER GIN BLENDER - The Negroni I had in Chainaya, Moscow, made by Roman Milostevy was pretty amazing.
GEORGE NEMEC, GLOBAL BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR BECHEROVKA- Maison Premiere NY/Brooklin
OSKAR KINBERG, DABBOUS' BAR DIRECTOR AND BARCHICK CRUSH- The Fitzrovia.
LCC'S JJ GOODMAN AND ALL ROUND BAR MEGASTAR - Other than one of mine? Not that i could pick which is my favourite child… I fell in love which NightJar this year, it seems to be a little bit of a "Marmite" bar to some people, but i can't find a flaw in it!
TONY C, WILLY WONKA OF THE BAR WORLD - With the opening of my new bar in Paris I've been getting to explore the scene over there a lot more. They have a lot of amazing things going on at the moment, and my favorite bar of the year has got to be Entre des Artistes.
Amazing cocktails, zero pretension, and a true Parisian feel.
AJAX KENTISH – BARCHICKS BARMAN IN NEW YORK - La Bodega Negra (Sex Shop Entrance) They have tequila and make a mean Nuclear Daiquiri. And hot staff!
ZDENEK KASTANEK INTERNATIONAL JETSETTER - PCO Delhi
THE ONE AND ONLY GAZ REGAN - This never changes: The Bay Horse, Station Road, Thornton, Lancashire
JAKE BURGER, LEGEND AND MASTER GIN BLENDER -
If you mean best new bar then probably Zetter Townhouse. Though I think our friendly neighbours at Trailer Happiness have done a great job of reviving a classic venue- and it's only 30 seconds from The Portobello Star!
BEST BAR MOMENT
LCC'S JJ GOODMAN AND ALL ROUND BAR MEGASTAR - I had to say goodbye to Andy Mil this year which obviously not the best moment for that reason, but it was great bringing the whole team together to say fair well, it really bought home what we have achieved in the last 4 years and made me feel warm and cuddly inside.
TONY C, WILLY WONKA OF THE BAR WORLD - Would have to be opening my new bar, Le Coq, in Paris. A real dreams come true scenario...
AJAX KENTISH – BARCHICKS BARMAN IN NEW YORK - One of two, either myself cycling to greece this year solo to raise money for another bartenders medical bill. Or Having a British Bartender hold the record for Rematch Beeyatch!
ZDENEK KASTANEK INTERNATIONAL JETSETTER - my last shift at QV after more then 3years and my team bringing me vintage engraved shaker and signed limited Bottle of my fav tequila:-]
THE ONE AND ONLY GAZ REGAN - Finger-stirring Negronis at 69 Colebrook Row, October
JAKE BURGER, LEGEND AND MASTER GIN BLENDER - Best bar moment was Paradise By The Dashboard Light in The Alibi, New Orleans after the Tales of the Cocktail Awards. It went o f f. Henry Besant was crowd surfing.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2013?
GEORGE NEMEC, GLOBAL BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR BECHEROVKA - to have loads of fun with Becherovka Original and its bohemian bartenders.
OSKAR KINBERG, DABBOUS' BAR DIRECTOR AND BARCHICK CRUSH- Quite a few things... maybe another opening?
LCC'S JJ GOODMAN AND ALL ROUND BAR MEGASTAR - Next year I'm looking forward to launching three new bars! Continuing to build the LCC army of ninja bar tending Jedi masters! Working on the book and seeing more of my friends and family than the last few years, I miss them way too much!

ZDENEK KASTANEK INTERNATIONAL JETSETTER - Running bar with really good friend of my at Singapore. Starting straight from Jan:-]
THE ONE AND ONLY GAZ REGAN - Tending the bar at The Dead Rabbit
JAKE BURGER, LEGEND AND MASTER GIN BLENDER - 2013? Can't wait for Dead Rabbits NYC. Tales of the Cocktail N'Orleans and Buenos Aires. And the opening of our New Mexican joint in Leeds. London is going to have its work cut out trying to follow 2012 but I'm sure it will continue to be the best city in the World.
