5 Cocktails That'll See you Through The Next Week

Sh*ts going down this week

Long dark nights, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Election Night & Guy Fawkes... At this point, we're not sure which is scarier (though right now, the U.S Election is giving us some 2-day-hangover levels of anxiety) but what we do know is that there's a kick-ass drink for every occasion.

Daylight Savings Time: 25th October - 28th March: The Daylight Saver

Here we go again. 6 months of longer, darker evenings as we sink our way into Winter. We'll be drinking this 'til the clocks "spring" forward again in March. Maybe Winter's not so bad after all.

You will need:

Method:

Combine all ingredients except absinthe in a cocktail shaker and shake with ice to chill. Rinse a chilled cocktail coupe or martini-style cocktail glass with absinthe, discarding the excess liquid. Strain cocktail into prepared glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Halloween: 31st October - The Pump-gin Cocktail

2020 has basically handed Halloween costume ideas to us on a plate. While you're trying to work out exactly how you're going to dress up as COVID-19, make sure you're drinking one of these terrifyingly good cocktails laced with Caorunn Gin.

You will need:

*For The Shrub

  • 500g Caster Sugar
  • 500g Pumpkin
  • 500g Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Cinnamon, Ginger
  • Cloves
  • Vanilla

Mix caster sugar, spices and pumpkin and leave it to rest in the fridge for 48h. Add the vinegar and blend the ingredients. Fine strain, bottle it, and refrigerate.

Method:

Built over ice in a highball & garnish with discarded pumpkin ash (and if ya don't have that just lying around the house, some pumpkin spice seasoning will suffice)

Day Of The Dead: 2nd November - Blood Orange Marigold Margarita

Day of the Dead is all about celebrating life, baby, and nothing makes us feel more alive than tequila. This epic, vibrant cocktail by Yvette Marquez is how we'll be raising the Spirits this Dia De Los Muertos.

You will need (serves 2):

  • 3 blood oranges, juiced
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 120ml tequila Blanco
  • 60ml Cointreau
  • Ice
  • Salt for glass rims
  • Marigold flowers (optional)

Method: Add all the freshly squeezed juice, tequila, Cointreau and ice to a shaker. Get it all shaken up baby, and pour into two salt and marigold rimmed margarita glasses. Garnish with a blood orange slice and cheers to life!

Election Night: 3rd November - F*ck Trump & Watermelon

So we in the UK have very little say over what happens on the U.S election night, so the best thing we can do is send good vibes to our comrades across the pond and hope for the best with something potent in hand. This cocktail used Empirical Spirit's "Fuck Trump and His Stupid Fucking Wall"; a refreshingly smooth, warm, vegetal tasting habanero spirit made from a base of pearled barley, Belgian saison yeast, and koji. It tastes like democracy and we love it.

You will need:

Method:

Blend the spirit with the watermelon and lime juice. Strain it into a glass over ice and mix. Add a pinch of salt and garnish with a watermelon wedge. Easy as ticking a box.
