5 Twists On Classic Cocktails To Make At Home

They say you shouldn't f*ck with a classic, but BarChick never plays by the rules.

PLOT TWIST! We've taken 5 bad-ass classic cocktails and given them a wicked twist for you to shake things up at home this weekend.

Piña-Mimosa

Did brunch just get a tropical twist? WE THINK SO. If you're uniting with your bunch crew over Zoom this weekend, make sure you all whip up a batch of these fun-time twists to get the party started.

You will need...

  • 1 Pineapple wedge/slice
  • Sugar for the glass rim
  • 40ml Pineapple juice
  • 20ml Coconut water
  • 40ml Coconut rum
  • Prosecco to top
  • Maraschino cherry to garnish

Pour the sugar into a dish and rim your flute with a pineapple wedge to wet it, then dip in sugar so the rim is nice and coated.  Pour in the rum, coconut and pineapple juice into your flute then top with prosecco. Garnish with a pineapple slice and a maraschino cherry to serve.

Cos-No-Politan

The Cosmo was the cocktail of choice for Carrie & her sexually liberated posse, but we couldn't help but wonder... what was Miranda drinking when she was pregnant? We bet it was this killer non-alc twist. Like hell would she miss out on cocktails with the girls just cos she was preggo.

 

You will need...

  • 40ml Everleaf bittersweet aperitif
  • 40ml cranberry juice
  • 15ml lime juice
  • 5ml sugar syrup

Shake and strain into a cocktail glass & garnish with an orange twist. That's BIG.

Velvette Fogg

This is the ultimate hybrid cocktail twist. Is it a White Russian or a Black Russian? Is it a cocktail or a dessert? It's pretty much all of the above! Usually served across London in Dishoom, this boozy, spicy, creamy cocktail will give you serious chills.

You will need:

  • 25ml Black Cow Vodka
  • 25ml Coffee Liqueur (Dishoom use their own house-made, we use Mr Black)
  • 1 scoop of Chai Ice Cream (you can make your own or go with this bad boy)
  • Garnish with chocolate powder

Scoop a ball of ice cream into a rocks glass and pour the vodka and coffee liqueur over the top before sprinkling chocolate powder to finish. Hmmm-mm.

Naked & Infamous

This naughty little twist on the ultimate crowd pleaser comes courtesy of the lads from our fave Irish boozer, Homeboy in Islington. This new generation Pornstar is all about equal measures - that's equal parts liquid and playfulness. Shake up a few of these and we promise ya, it's the most fun you'll have with your clothes on this weekend...

You will need...

  • 20ml Grey Goose Vanilla
  • 20ml Yellow Chartreuse
  • 20ml Aperol
  • 20ml Apple Juice
  • 20ml Passion Fruit Puree
  • 10ml Sugar Syrup

Put all the liquid into a shaker with a sh*t loada ice and shake hard and fast. This is a twist on a Pornstar, after all. Once that shaker is freezing to the touch, strain it into a coupe glass and serve. P.S you can swap out the vodka for mezcal if you want something a lil smokier. 

Frankenstein Zombie

This wicked tiki drink comes from the twisted minds of the mad scientists at TT Liquor.  It's a bit of a break from the tiki norm, with some serious Long Island Iced Tea vibes and a hit of east-Asian flavour. This monster has some serious strength to it - def not for the faint-hearted!

You will need...

  • 10ml Vodka
  • 10ml Gin
  • 10ml White Rum
  • 15ml Midori
  • 25ml Lemon Juice
  • 12.5ml Sugar Syrup
  • Lemon Wedge to Garnish

Add all the ingredients to a cubed ice-filled shaker and give it a beastly shake for 10-15 seconds - it'll be mega cold by this point. Then fill your high-ball or tiki mug with cubed ice and strain your cocktail into the glass. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
