Grab a pen, here’s the dirty on what’s bringing the boys to the bar this month. May: The Strand Dining Rooms Stick another swanky new restaurant on your Sugar Daddy list, The Strand Dining Rooms have arrived. Located in the middle of Trafalgar Square expect serious swag with a focus on traditional and contemporary British dishes. Mark Harris is the man behind the mischief in the kitchen and Russell Sage is responsible for the interior; a railway Pullman Coach with all manner of polished wood finishes, shabba. 1-3 Strand, Grand Buildings, London, WC2N 2nd - 3rd May: The Kentucky Derby We're not suggestion you go, but we are suggesting you have a drink in honour of it, because out there over 120,000 Juleps are drank over the two day festival. The Whip are having a Southern celebration and have whipped up (literally) a Frankfort Julep (whisper its name to the barman) and will be showing all the races and serving up some delicious Southern food. 2nd May: Cuervo's Cantina at Skylounge Summer is almost here which can only mean one thing, time to get high. There’s nowhere else we’d rather be drinking than on a sexy rooftop with awesome views and even better drinks. Cuervo’s Cantina at Skylounge launches this month with Mexican vibes, bites and booze for you to soak up this summer! Sip on Palomas, eat nachos and enjoy. 7 Pepys Street, London, EC3N 4AF 15th May: Blues kitchen Shoreditch Looking for somewhere with over 100 bourbons, Crate Brewery Beers on tap and a Texan BBQ? Sure you are. Go wild for BBQ Sauces from The Rib Man and a 150 gallon lobster tank in the middle of the main bar. Wash down fried alligator with 67.5% strong snake venom beer like a boss. 143 Curtain Road, London, EC2A 3AR   1st May – 21st June: Urban Food Fest A car park in Shoreditch hosts 15 vendors for Saturday night scoff-sessions. If variety is your thing then you’ll love it here; pizza, pad Thai, fried chicken… oh and there’s a corner dedicated to the three Vs…vegetarian, vegan and v. raw. Cute, bring your healthy mates too then. Euro Car Parks, 162-175 Shoreditch High Street, London, E1 6HU 1st May – 30th September: Rooftop Film Club Watch classic, cult and recently released film atop of two of London’s jazziest rooftops; Queen of Hoxton, Shoreditch and Bussey Building, Peckham Rye from 1st May to 30th September. Eat and get locked into the big screen beneath the stars, magical. 1-5 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3JX // 133 Rye Lane, Peckham, London SE15 4ST 5th May: Cinco de Mayo Why did the Mexican push his wife off a cliff? TEQUILA! Yeah it’s the word of the week and you’re going to have it in and around your mouth for the first of the month’s bank holidays. Check out our round up of Cinco de Mayo parties, grab your mask, you’ve pulled. Opening 6th May: Fera, Claridge’s Chef Simon Rogan opens Fera at Claridge’s, he’ll be taking over from Gordon Ramsay, like a baller. The name Fera means ‘wild’ in Latin and reflects both the primal influence of nature and the highly seasonal ingredients used in his cooking. Bringing many ingredients from his own farm expect less swearing and more biodynamic wine. 49 Brook Street, London, W1K 4HR 6th May: Shangri La Hotel Early this month the world-famous Shangri La Hotel will be opening its (very high up) doors in the top of the dizzying Shard. We’re looking forward to dining at Ting with all its modern European / Asian cuisine, and getting our pretty pastry fill at Lang. Cocktails at Gong will have to wait till July sadly. The Shard, 31 St Thomas Street, London, SE1 9QU 2nd May: House of Peroni We’re excited about getting our Italian freak on this month at the House of Peroni residency. Four floors of Italian culture with a lot of Peroni to wash it all down with. Italian design, fashion, food and drink… prego! 64 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3JX 6th May: City Social Jason Atherton continues his winning streak with the opening of City Social in the Tower 42 Building. Get swanky and take in the view. Tower 42, 25 Old Broad Street, London, EC2N 1HT 7th May: Boutique Bar Show It’s the industry event of the year and it’s not to be missed. Bringing together the best bars, bartenders and booze this planet has to offer, if you’re a booze hound then this night is for you… if you can get yourself to Manchester. Talks, presentations and tastings, it’s not to be missed. The Manchester Town Hall, Manchester, Albert Square, M2 5DB 8th May: Cocktails in the City It’s basically one huge cocktail party hosted by all the best bars and bartenders in town and BarChick’s all over it, get your ass to Manchester because it’s where the party’s at! The Manchester Town Hall, Manchester, Albert Square, M2 5DB 8th May: Emporio Eivissa Cancel those flights to Ibiza baby, it’s just come to you. A rooftop in Shoreditch will be transformed into a Bohemian hub of all things Balearic. There’ll be market stalls, cocktails, street food, relaxing beats and stunning views across East London. Sadly Benirrass couldn’t make it, leave that thong bikini at home. The Rooftop, Rockwell House, 10–14 Hewett Street, Shoreditch 9th, 10th May: Chilli Chilli Bang Bang Some like it hot, others are simply in it for the boogie… whatever your motivation get down to this chilli pepper partay. Wahaca co-founder and chilli nut Thomasina Miers will be on hand to bring you lively demos from the UK's most hot-headed chefs and fiery street food from all four corners of the globe. Not even into Mexican? There’ll be burgers from Tommi’s Diner, pizza from Pilgrim Pizzas, Indian from Rola Wala, Peruvian from Andina, Japanese from Yum Bun and many, many more. Basically if you’re hungry and you know it, get tickets to this. Dalston Yard, Hartwell Street, London, E8 3DF 10th - 11th May: Future Factory Find your fabulous at this pop up concept in a 4000sq foot warehouse space in East London, obvs. Friends and fashion insiders Hannah Warner, Liz Mendez, Willa Keswick and Sarah Owen will present their brands while BarChick will be bringing the booze, the vibes and the party, boom. 37 Coate Street, Hackney, E2 9AG 16th May: Peg & Patriot Marmite Vodka Martinis and Salt Beef Sazeracs will be the order of the day at Matt Whiley’s new Peg & Patriot at Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel. They’ll be making gins, vodkas and liqueurs on site. The hotel’s chef, Lee Westcott, will provide the eats, and the décor will be ‘paired back’ to keep the focus on the rocking bartenders. Town Hall Hotel, Patriot Square, London, E2 9NF 16th,17th May: Street Feast Night markets are fast becoming an East London favourite; fairy lights, street vendors, cocktails... needless to say we’re down with it. After a little break Street Feast will be returning to Dalston Yard with more traders than Wall Street, pow. Hartwell Street, London, E8 3DF 17th May: Shucking and Shaking The Bloody Oyster is to pop up at The Prince Arthur for one day only. Drag yourself out of bed and drink Bloody Marys washed down with oysters. We’ll be hitting it just for the deep-filled fried oyster burger and fries. The Bloody Marys are pretty damn special too. The Prince Arthur, 95 Forest Road, London, E8 3BH May 20th – 24th: Chelsea Flower Show Sure, flowers and Panamas aren’t usually BarChick’s thing but nothing is more quintessentially British than the Chelsea Flower Show. So if like BarChick your gran’s in town, then this is the ultimate way to score brownie points, especially if you take her for flower themed cocktails before / after. Royal Hospital Chelsea, London, SW3 4SL 24th May – Coppa The Hothouse Rooftop will be home to Coppa for the summer months. Expect beach cabanas, deckchairs, a BBQ… and cocktails, of course. Head chef Christian Angius will serve Italian rosticceria - free-range chicken served either 'Nduja-marinated or seasoned with rosemary & lemon and served with a choice of salads. Hello epic views of East London. Hothouse Rooftop, Martello Street, London E8 QW 25th May:  The Water Poet Cider Festival and Hog Roast The Barn will be overflowing with a who's who of the best new and classic cider producers around.  A scrumptious hog will be spit roasted in the beer garden, and some summertime reggae tunes performed live to nod your head to whilst chilling on a hay bale. 9-11 Folgate St, Shoreditch, London, E1 6BX
