Hot New Bars Around The Globe - May 2015

Cerise - Chicago Chicago’s new rooftop bar This long awaited bar on the rooftop of Chicago’s Virgin Hotel is finally open and it’s as epic as we hoped. Sitting 26 storeys up, the views are mega so soak them up while you wait for your cocktail. Want to try something new? Get in to Japanese spirit Yuzu with the Far East Gimlet. If you’re in the mood for food then it’s all fresh sashimi and oysters. It’s slick, colourful and comfortable - they’ve even got goddamn beds up there so may as well settle in for the night. The Virgin Hotel, 203 N Wabash Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601 GLOBAL.Cerise CC Ferns - Chicago Boozy coffee and retro vibes Cuban. Rum. Latte. Enough said. No? Alright. This new spot has the retro feel of a minimalist 1960s shag pad and links to renowned music venue the California Clipper. It’s got a regular coffee shop look from the front but step closer and you’ll find bottles of booze lined up ready to spike your espresso. Make sure you’re sipping from topless tiki mugs and hit the cigars while you’re at it. 2806 W Augusta Boulevard, Chicago, IL 60622 GLOBAL.CC.Ferns   Villain & Saint - Washington Bacon ice cubes It’s all about the booze in Washington’s new joint with 14 American drafts on tap and bartenders who really know their stuff; we’re talking whiskey cocktails with bacon ice. Boom. They’re big on snacks too so pull up a bar stool and get involved in the St Louis ribs, zucchini pancakes and enjoy whatever live music they’ve got going on. 7141 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20814 GLOBAL.Urban.Daddy The High Dive - Washington BYO food This place is all about the dive. Set with jukebox and old school video games there’s no frills in here and that’s how they like it. Order up some Moscow Mules or cans of beer and kick back as the jukebox throws out some classics. They don’t serve their own food but they’re totally up for you taking a bag of Doritos or a pizza and picnicking it up. Chill out by the window stools and people watch. 513 N 36th Street, Seattle, WA 98103 GLOBAL.The.High.Dive Wilde - Los Angeles LA’s new date spot If you’re looking for a s*xy wine joint in LA then look no further because Wilde is all about great bottles to side with your plate of steak frites. All crushed velvet banquettes and red leather stools, this is perfect for date night. Crack onto a bottle of white that’s been blended by French nuns (of course) and sit back and pretend you’re chilling in your European mate’s sophisticated digs. 320 South La Brea Avenue, CA 90036 GLOBAL.Wilde Tanner Smith’s - New York Draft beers up top, aged cocktails downstairs This is NYC’s new all in one place, place. Up top is all about draft IPAs that you’ll struggle to find elsewhere in the city and a kitchen that is throwing out stuffed chicken goodness. Looking for something stronger? Take it down a level to find the hidden cocktail den. On the lower floor they’ve got church pew seating, gin cocktails served in teapots and the very best barrel-aged Negronis and Manhattans. You’ll find us here. 204 West 55th Street, New York NY 10019 GLOBAL.Tanner.Smith.s

The Swinging Cat - Sydney Sydney’s nailed the Sazerac This dim underground spot has taken inspiration from New Orleans. With more of a sophisticated flex, The Swinging Cat is perfect for sitting back and sippin’ on a Sazerac - they’re offering up a few twists on this signature serve too; peppermint, toffee nut or smoked honey. These have all been created to perfection but if you’re looking for something a bit more Mardi Gras then pick up a Hurricane, topped with a cherry and a paper umbrella. 44 King Street, Syndey, 2000 GLOBAL.The.Swinging.Cat.000

Grand Pigalle - Paris Luxe drinking and rooms for sleepovers From the same group that brought us the Experimental Cocktail Club comes this streetside hotel bar in Paris’ 9th arrondissement. These guys are taking the party into les petites heures so head here in the early evening for a round or two of cocktails and some great food but when closing time hits order up a bottle of the good stuff, check into one of their amazing bedrooms for the night and let the good times roll. FYI there are pre-bottled cocktails in the mini bar and booze-inspired toiletries. 79 Rue Victor Masse, 75009, Paris, France GLOBAL.Grand.Pigalle Bull in a China Shop - London Japanese whisky den From the guys who opened up Drunken Monkey comes a new East London haunt with a Far Eastern flex. Once a pole dancing bar, this place now serves up killer Japanese whisky, Chinese food and Oriental curiosities. You can’t drop in without tasting the Charcoal Old Fashioned and while you’re there you might as well tuck into a charcoal chicken burger too. 196 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6JE Joyeux Bordel - London ECC goes east The ECC are busy boys and have opened up a new spot in London too. Joyeux Bordel (which translates as Happy Mess) sure ain’t easy to find but once you’re in you’ll be led down to a den of debauchery with pimped up Parisian decor, leopard print carpet and a load of mirrors. But you’re here for the booze and these guys have created a small but perfectly formed killer cocktail menu. They’ve got their musical funk on too with afro, soul, disco and boogie setting the tone ‘til the early hours. Mais oui. 147 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3QE GLOBAL.Joyeux.Bordel
