Hot Openings Around the World - November 2014

New York – The Raines Law Room at The William

The original is a favourite speakeasy in our little black book, so we’re sure you can expect the same level of cocktail prowess and super sexy vibes at the new Raines Law Room, you just have to relocate yourself to The William Hotel in Murray Hill. Adding to the mix are fireplaces and a build your own Old Fashioned menu, which will keep us busy on a rainy afternoon.

The William Hotel, 24 E 39th St, New YorkNY 10016, United States

New York – The Happiest Hour

We like their style - palm tree wallpaper and curiosities from imaginary Caribbean jaunts lining the shelves - but with the gang from Acme and Pegu Club behind this West Village bad boy, they’ve got the drinks to boot. The cocktails are designed so you can choose which spirit you want, and then soak it up with late night snacks in the diner at the back. Every hour is happy hour here.

121 West 10th Street, New York, NY 10011, United States New York - Sekend Sun Basik has been our failsafe haunt for years, even when we didn't live next door anymore, so we were thrilled to hear that Jay Zimmerman and Derrek Vernon have opened up another joint in the up and coming Astoria. Expect the same brilliant low key local vibe and tight cocktail list, but with a bigger kitchen, and all the more reason to stay longer.

32-11 Broadway. Astoria, New York, NY 11106, United States sekend sun Miami - Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink

This Miami stalwart has been given a makeover and come out all shiny and new, and it’s better in our books, if only for the expanded bar area and all day opening hours. Bring on fancy pants oysters and wood-fired pizzas, along with the good ol’ menu favourites too.

130 NE 40th Street, Miami, Florida 33137, United States

 Miami – The Rum Line

This feels like a vintage beach bar with all the glamour intact of 1940s Havana, except it’s today, in the Loews Hotel Miami Beach in an outdoor bungalow strung with lights and packed with palms. That tasty Daiquiri has been designed by top bartender Robert Ferrara, picking from the back bar of over 100 rums. Go for a signature punch served in a scorpion bowl and relax in the balmy Miami night.

1601 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, Florida, United States

Miami - Kreepy Tiki Bar & Lounge

They’ve got Broken Shaker’s Gui Jaroschy and Orange Blossom’s Trevor Alberts behind the bar so we’re already excited, but then we hear of tiki madness, frozen drinks and hula galore and we’ve got our leis at the ready. Badass points for being the play den of the Kreepy Tiki Tattoo parlour next door. Tiki tattoo anyone?

2608 South Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States

San Francisco - Plank

Beer, burgers, bourbon, billiards, bocce ball and bowling. Boom. Slap a 15,000sqft terrace on that with fire pits and you got us a hot date.

Jack London Square, Oakland, California, United States

Las Vegas – Whist Stove & Spirits

A new 24-hour spot from the people behind Commonwealth and Park on Fremont. Whist looks great for dates, from brunch in the garden-lined patio to late night cocktails sitting on velvet chairs beneath crystal chandeliers.

2235 Village Walk Drive, Henderson, Nevada 89052, United States

New Orleans – Latitude 29

This will be tiki at its very best. Latitude 29 is the labour of love of tiki expert and cocktail writer Jeff ‘Beachbum’ Berry, located in the French Quarter. Head bartender Steve Yamada will be making you a real Hurricane, with cocktails largely based on Berry’s recipes, and chef Chris Shortall will whip out some tasty ribs.

321 N. Peters Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130, United States

Paris – Dersou

Another hot to trot opening in Paris’s booming cocktail scene, Dersou is the love child of Sherry Butt’s barman Amaury Guyot and chef Taku Sekine of Saturne and Clown Bar. Due to open on November 15th, this will be a cocktail-themed restaurant in the Bastille with cocktail tasting menus and rock & roll vibes.

21 Rue Saint Nicolas, 75012, Paris, France

Paris – Lulu White

We don’t know much about this hot little spot yet-to-open at time of writing except for it’s not far from our late night haunts of Glass and Dirty Dicks in South Pigalle, and it’s brought to us from the team behind the brilliant Little Red Door. Lulu White was one of the most famous madams of New Orleans, so here’s hoping for some Louisiana-inspired food and drink.

12 Rue Frochot 75009, Paris, France

Madrid – DOMO Bar & Lounge by Cabarer

The flagship NH Collection Eurobuilding is a multimillion high tech so-called ‘Living Lab’ of a hotel. But we’re here for top bartender Diego Cabrera’s masterpiece on the top floor, where his award winning team are bringing you cocktails, with 99 Sushi Bar next door providing the snacks. If you’re feeling flash hit up three Michelin-starred DiverXO downstairs.

Padre Damián, 23. 28036 Madrid, Spain

Copenhagen – Balderdash

Geoffrey Canilao of Employees Only and The Union has branched out and opened his own multilevel space in an 18thCentury building in Copenhagen. With a drinks lab and kitchen, it’s all about innovative flavours, ideas and collaborations, working closely with the local restaurant scene, which as we know is one of the best in the world.

1100 Copenhagen, Denmark

Singapore - Bin 38

This confused us a bit, but we’re pretty sure this will be epic. Above our favourite Singapore spot The Tippling Club, is British chef owner Ryan Clift’s test kitchen in collaboration with Australian winery Penfolds. There’s a 34-seat cocktail bar, a 12-seat private dining area and a R&D lab, where the team test out their molecular gastronomy ideas for the restaurant below. Expect more of the same brilliance in concentration.

Level 2, 38 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088461

Hong Kong – Artesian

Multi-award winning and arguably the world’s best bar, Artesian has spread its wings and opened up shop in the newly refurbished Langham Hotel in Hong Kong’s TST. They feature 10 classics from the London menu, though with less of the theatrics. We hear this is an understated sibling to the big hits brigade in London.

8 Peking Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong

Sydney – Stillery

Introducing Sydney’s first concept gin bar. Located in Double Bay’s InterContinental, Stillery has a collection of high-end local craft, imported, vintage and rare gin and a range of botanicals and infusions housed behind the seven-metre long marble bar.  Mix it up with their selection of cocktails or go DIY with the make-your-own Martini menu.

Dubai – Tresind

They serve modernist Indian cuisine, whatever that is, but this fine dining spot in the Radisson Royal Hotel also has an impressively stocked cocktail lounge we hear.

Radisson Royal Hotel, Plot 49, Sheikh Zayed Road, Trade Center District, Dubai, 9940 Dubai
