London's Drinking Terraces

Sometimes you don’t need a roof terrace with banging views or a big pimping garden. All you’re after is some outdoor space to take advantage of the small bit of sun that occasionally appears when you’re out drinking. SO that being said, here are some sweet terraces/places with a bit of outdoors for you to enjoy with your drink…

Number 90

With the sun threatening to shine at any moment it’s always good to know you’ve got somewhere boozy to soak it up. Number 90’s newly expanded canal side terrace is the stuff that urban dreams are made of; fairy lights, decking, a bespoke outdoor bar and Brazilian cocktails, boom. Hit the opening weekend on Friday 20th June for tunes from funk DJ's Paul Flucks and Will Croxdon.

90 Main Yard, Wallis Road, Hackney Wick, London E9 5LN

Gordon’s Wine Bar

This place is perfect for winter AND summer. Head in to the dark cave-like bar when the sun’s gone in, but when it’s out and sticking around the guys at Gordon’s have a nice long outdoor terrace area for you to drink, eat (snacks, not the terrace itself) and enjoy. Perfect for after work drinks before the commute home.

47 Villiers Street, London, WC2N 6NE

Dishoom

This has the plus points of being in the sun but also the comfort of a front room. The terrace at Dishoom Shoreditch literally feels as though someone has ripped off the roof purely for your sunning pleasure… and boy have we gotta thank whoever did that! Comfy sofas, plants, lamps, fireplaces and plush rugs… perfect.

7 Boundary Street, London, E2 7JE

Bonnie Gull

During the summer months the guys at Bonnie Gull have created an afternoon cocktail menu for you to enjoy on the tables outside. Usually they don’t open till a bit later on, but with a late summer like this who can deny people of a bit of outdoor drinking? Get a load of oysters in and treat yourself, this seafood is as fresh as it gets.

The Smoke House

New to Islington, this meaty pub may not look like it has much outdoor space but you’d be wrong, there is a deceptively large amount of seating areas on their terrace out back, down the sides and near the front… they didn’t want to waste ANY space. Chill here till the evening when the pretty fairy lights will keep you happy until you decide to leave. Oh and be sure to tuck into their food menu, with Neil Rankin in charge it’s awesome.

63—69 Canonbury Road, London, N1 2DG

The Parlour

There's a secret garden inspired hang out inside, but if the sun's shining then it's their outdoor terrace where you'll want to kick back on with your cocktail. It's got its own bar so it's the perfect cocktail playpen. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and great cocktails - this venue is a real giver.

The Park Pavilion, 40 Canada Square Park, London, E14 5FW

Number 90

Number 90 is a wicked canal-side bar located in Hackney Wick. Their terrace located right on the water is as welcoming as can be and it always filled with a cool crew. The food is good, likewise the drinks and they have some great regular monthly events like burger nights and Sunday roasts. That's not to mention film nights and live bands.

90 Main Yard, London, Wallis Road, Hackney Wick, E9 5LN

Tom’s Terrace

No surprises that there’s a terrace here! This 18th century terrace tucked away in Somerset House offers Champagne, cocktails, snacks and sharing boards… you get the idea. Also, while you’re enjoying all these offerings you’ve got banging views of the Thames and London’s loved landmarks like the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament, drink it in!

Somerset House, London, WC2R 1LA

The Harbour & Terrace

Beside the marina this is the perfect spot for meetings, catch ups and recharging. There is an Asian-inspired menu on offer with sushi platters and fresh nigri as well as traditional dishes like burgers (don’t worry, you can still get your classic fix)… get the cocktails in and stay here until sunset.

The Ship

The Ship always gets the crowds in, so much so that they’ve had to change their Bank Holiday policies due to the mayhem! On a usual afternoon however it’s far more reserved, there are spaces for large groups and even sheltered seating booths if the rain spoils the party, plus this all looks over the river… nice.

41 Jews Row, London, SW18 1TB

Terrace Bar & Food

You gotta love Southbank, you never know what you’re gonna see. Lucky for you, you can get comfy at the Terrace Bar & Food and watch it all unfold, in the sun, drink in hand. Perfect. It has a kind of warehouse vibe with a seriously relaxed atmosphere, perfect place to cotch in the afternoon, plus the London skyline views are something else!

Drury Lane, London, WC2B 5PW

Strongroom

Tucked away on Curtain Road in a cobbled courtyard is Strongroom. Filled with media heads and music lovers this place has various DJs spinning their sh*t, live bands and some serious food. Plus they have a large outside area sprawled across a parking lot to get your sun on, ready to be covered when it rains and heated when it’s cold!

The Crabtree

This pub has got it all; from an amazing spot on the river to a roaring BBQ, as well as a lot of booze to get stuck into. The terrace is mega with lots of seating, tables and beautiful riverside views. If the sun’s out then pop the prosecco and kick back here for the afternoon, plus it’s the perfect place to pick up a toff.

Rainville Road, London, W6 9HA

The Serpentine

In the summer sun, this really is one of the most beautiful places to relax. Order up a magnum of pale rose and kick back to the sounds of those rocking the pedalos on the water. If you’re in luck there’ll be a pop-up burger and hot dog BBQ, and even a gin bar, if not you’ll just have to settle for crispy fish and chips and cocktails. Struggle.

Serpentine Road, Hyde Park, London, W2 2UH

Fields Bar and Kitchen

Want to play tennis but would rather lift a glass to your lips than a racket to a ball? Well here you can do both; their pretty, rustic, sun-soaked terrace looks right out over the tennis courts so you can get stuck into the prosecco while keeping score. The food is delicious, we say hit the Negronis and sleep them off in the park after lunch.

Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3LH

Pub on The Park

A pub in a park with a terrace, what’s not to love? Grab a table on the raised terrace and laugh at the cool kids in London Fields trying to spark up disposable BBQs in the mud. Smug is a hot look right? Man friendly, this place gets packed on match day, ladies, thank us later.

19 Martello Street, London, E8 3PE

Inn the Park

You’ll find this treehouse-looking building by the lake in the middle of the beautiful St James’s Park. You’ll have to fight off the ducks / geese / swans for a table, but they’re pretty friendly. Cocktails are refreshing and with ingredients like rosemary puree, plum puree and smoked pineapple they are delicious as well as healthy, so roll up for your five a day. Food is pretty decent too.

St James’s Park, London

Paradise by way of Kensal

A Bloody Mary will be your ultimate accessory here as no one does brunch like Paradis. Attracting North London’s acoustic musicians and rude boys in equal measure bring your sunnies and schmooze on the terrace.

19 Kilburn Lane, Kensal Green, London, W10 4AE

The River Café

If you really want to spoil someone, this is where to do it properly. But be warned this is no last minute, ditch attempt affair, oh no, this place has to be booked well in advance but it is worth every delicious mouthful. Their terrace is the place to be if the sun’s shining, and the people on it are some of London’s finest. Get a magnum of rose and make sure you’re packing plastic.

Thames Wharf, Rainville Road, London, W6 9HA

London House

Battersea Square just got cool. While there are a lot of places to sit in the sun in this corner of London, thanks to its epic cocktails, this is the one we’ll fly the flag for. The cocktails are inventive, creative and downright delicious, kick back and drink to life on the square.

7-9 Battersea Square, London, SW11 3RA

The Bluebird

If you’re hanging on the King’s Road and in need of a drink, this terrace is the bomb (provided you are a yummy mummy / wearing red trousers). There’s a ping pong table, an outdoor bar and they even fire up the BBQ when the sun’s out. Perfect way to spend an afternoon.

350 King’s Road, London, SW3 5UU

L’Atelier’s Salon Bar & Terrace

Joel Robuchon went travelling and brought the best of his findings into a cool chain of vibrant restaurants with a signature hot black and red look. Eat a fusion of French, Japanese and Spanish food, then kick back on the terrace with a Shrub Fizz, it’s one helluva sun-trap.

13-15 West Street, London, WC2H 9NE
