Putting Pen to Shaker Cocktail Competition

BarChick hit The Playboy Club one Tuesday afternoon and found a whole lot more than just shaking, making and drinking!

Eight bartenders from seven different cities were given 5 minutes to create a cocktail with at least two of The Poshmakers Spirits and taking inspiration from a book, any book.

Some of the highlights were cocktails in wellingtons, a Mad Hatter’s tea party, oyster and chilli vodka infusions, one full English breakfast and a Bloody Mary sandwich. In the next life we want to be as creative as a bartender…

Does a bear drink rum in darkest Peru? (Yes, of course) by David Hamilton-Boyd from Organic Spirit

Inspired by Paddington Bear

  • 50ml Virgin Gorda Rum flash infused with hot buttered sour dough toast
  • 12.5ml lemon juice
  • 3 spoonfuls ish of ishlimed soft-set marmalade
  • 2 dashes AKA Vodka, chamomile and vanilla bitters
  • Topped with soda

Wake Me Up and Start Again by Neil Donachie from Popolo’s, Newcastle

  • 45ml ish London Dry
  • 15ml Cocchi Americano
  • 10ml AKA, Oyster & Chilli vodka infusion
  • 20ml homemade grapefruit cordial
  • 10ml lemon juice
  • 25ml egg white
  • 4 drops Peychaud's Bitters



Full on tea party in 5 mins

6 O’Clock Tale by Susie Wong from Cuckoo, Prestwich

  • 30ml AKA Vodka
  • 25ml Ish Gin
  • 5ml White cacao
  • 15ml lime juice
  • 20ml Blossoms Strawberry Syrup
  • 3 dashes rose water
  • Egg white

  • 25ml AKA Vodka
  • 25ml Virgin Gorda Rum
  • 25ml Chocolate liqueur
  • 15ml Hazelnut liqueur
  • Egg white
  • Grated chocolate with smoky bacon
