Romantic Bars

In the words of The Nolans,

target="_blank">we’re in the mood for romancing. So whether you wanna kiss that girl or bag that boy, screw the Eiffel Tower, these bars are where to do it…

Gordon’s Wine Bar

The ultimate date spot (especially for hobbits), it’s candlelit and hopelessly romantic. This Dickensian cave is the wine cellar you wish you had at home. Settle in and work through the extensive wine list, but don’t worry, mountains of cheese and chicken wings are on hand to keep you compos mentis. Oh and forget footsie, it’s dark enough for a full on feel up.

47 Villiers Street, London, WC2N 6NE

Gremio De Brixton

Tucked beneath the unassuming St Matthew’s Church is the dark and intimate Gremio de Brixton. Walk towards the church, down the dark stairs and through the large creepy gate (hold your date close in fear), where you’ll find yourself in an arched and candlelit Spanish tapas joint. Spanish wine, beer and sherry will flow and it’s all very Romeo & Juliet, and if that’s not romantic then what the hell is?

St Matthew’s Church, Brixton Hill, London, SW2 1JF

Les Deux Salons

Beautiful from the outside in, Les Deux Salons is a charming French brasserie in the heart of Covent Garden. Take a seat by the window, splurge on a bottle of Champagne, and stay for dinner - the French food is delicious, the lighting attractive and the ambience amorous. Mais oui!

40-42 William IV Street, London, WC2N 4DD

Coal Vaults

If the person you’re schmoozing is new and hot, then this place is even more so. Restored to its former glory as a coal vault, it has a raw but very slick feel to it. Book ahead to reserve one of their vaults because they are damn intimate, sexy and candlelit, plus the food is delicious and the cocktails beautiful.

187B Wardour Street, London, W1F 8ZB

214 Bermondsey

Ten minutes in this candlelit basement speakeasy and you’ll feel like you’re in a classic film… now kiss the girl. If gin pushes your romantic button, then you will fall head over heels. They have an extensive gin list and even make their own tonic to complement it, go on, test it with a gin flight and the rest will be history.

214 Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 3TJ

Artesian at The Langham Hotel

The height of opulence and decadence, where romance is well and truly on the cards. If your lover is even half as beautiful as this bar then you are doing incredibly well. The vibe is Oriental, the drinks are the epitome of perfection and the service is impeccable. Only for those who are very special and deserve to be spoilt.

1C Portland Place, London, W1B 1JA

Evans & Peel

Nothing screams romance than a bit of role play right? Well this place is all about it. First things first, you’ve gotta get past the detective, so rehearse your sexiest Cluedo scenario and pray that he swings back the book case. If he does welcome to a world of Prohibition, low lighting, crackly music, some damn sexy cocktails and smoked food - you’ll fall in love instantly. Oh and if you wanna bring a different date each week, these guys will keep schtum, always good to know.

310c Earls Court Road, London, SW5 9BA

Cork and Bottle

A quiet little sanctuary just off Leicester Square? Not possible. Actually it is. Blink and you’ll miss the door to Cork and Bottle, so don’t get caught up in amorous canoodling (until you get down the stairs). Welcome to a sweet, sweet cellar wine bar with dripping candle wax, flaky walls and little alcoves to sneak into. Drink wine, eat cheese, this place is as loveable as you’ll be when you’re in it.

44-46 Cranbourne Street, London, WC2H 7AN

69 Colebrooke Row

This bar is seriously sexy: the lighting is low, the music is jazzy and the tables intimate. On Thursdays and Sundays they break out the piano which just sets the tone perfectly (if you’re a pianist here’s your chance to impress). Tony C, the dashing mixologist who owns this place, pours his heart and soul into these drinks, and we’re sure your date will too.
