Thanksgiving Feasts in London 2015

In the states this thankful day is dedicated to basting, roasting, stuffing, boozing, totally inappropriate wisecracking from grandmothers and feuding until mom loses her sh*t.  We don't like to miss out so London's taking on Thanksgiving in style this year with big*ss feasts, bourbon gravy, gingerbread cocktails and more pumpkin pie than you can shake a stick at.  This year it’s on the 26th November so if you want something to be thankful for mark your calendars and book in to one of these epic Thanksgiving feasts.

The Lockhart

Hallelujah, Mississippi-born Brad McDonald is bringing Deep South flavours to Marylebone: smoked turkey with bourbon gravy, mashed potato, oyster and country ham stuffing, collard greens, marshmallow and pecan roasted sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie with bourbon chantilly. BarChick’s all about a no-frills aesthetic matched with heaps of vibrant food, so this feast is at the top our list. It’ll cost you £50, but a glass of Michelle Brut sparkling wine from Columbia Valley is included in that price and it's the best American grub in town, so you’re winning. Bookings can be made via

All of Bodean’s barbeque joints are charging £23.95 (bargain) per person for a meal worthy of association with the smoke-pit capital of the U.S. of A.. You’ll get a choice of clam chowder, quesadilla (with a chicken, pulled pork or veggie filling) or a caesar salad to start and a main platter for 2 of turkey and glazed ham with mash, cornbread stuffing and grilled veg. Seal the deal with a key lime or pumpkin pie at no extra cost. If you wanna become an American national treasure, drink a Coors Light with your chow; no high-brow antics here. Don't wanna commit to the whole spread? Opt for their Pilgrim burger (6oz seasoned turkey patty mounted on homemade corn stuffing, topped with cranberry relish, watercress and a hand-carved slice of juicy turkey ham in a thick gravy) with a side of sweet potato fries.

Hotel Chantelle

Their original outpost is in New York and they're massively homesick, so they're obviously going to be partaking in the festivities at their newest sister outpost across the pond. Chef Seth Levine will not only be serving you up a decadent family style meal, but he'll be doing so until 2am. Very unorthodox, but very cool in BarChick's book. On the menu will be Figs Brulee, Autumn Greens Salad with spiced butternut squash, goat curd and apple cider vinaigrette, Butternut Squash Risotto, and a Roasted Turkey with chestnut brioche stuffing. After you've lined your stomach take a breather on the terrace, then get back in there and coat it with killer booze and chocolate.

Balthazar is a New York transplant and kind of an institution, so you should seriously consider partaking in Thanksgiving shenanigans here. The menu will not only include a 3-course feast showcasing roast turkey with orange-and-chestnut stuffing, corn fritters and pumpkin cheesecake, but a gingerbread-spiced cocktail; you get the best of both worlds from either side of the pond in this opulent modern brasserie. Pow.

Chiltern Firehouse

Nuno Mendes will be the man behind the epic meal at this grade II-listed Victorian-gothic fire station. If you’re after a swank and swish kinda affair, this one’s for you. It does come from the same man who’s behind Chateau Marmont after all... For £32 you’ll get hay roasted organic turkey with sausage, truffle and foie gras stuffing, buttered brioche and a sour berry jus; it’s a far cry from a quintessential American Thanksgiving, but does it really matter when truffle and foie gras stuffing is on the menu? No. If all of that doesn’t line your stomach sufficiently, opt for some maple bourbon sweet potatoes and pecan pie with bourbon cream for a few extra quid.

If James Bond were to decide to engage in the Thanksgiving festivities, he would go to Christopher’s with a loosened tie and a Martini in hand. This is not only because of the super sleek decor, but because of the all-day set menu featuring blackened shrimps with shaved truffle and pistachio crumbs, slow-cooked ballotine of turkey with corn bread, hazelnut and cherry stuffing, and all the fixings. Seal the banquet with a dessert of pear and almond cobbler with blackberry compote and salted caramel ice cream and pat yourself on the back for getting all of it at £55 a head. If you’re more into festive booze than festive food, sidle up to the art-deco bar and order yourself a few Thanksgiving-themed cocktails.

They'll have a 3 course Thanksgiving menu which’ll boast a roasted pumpkin soup with cranberry quince compote, roasted turkey with wild mushroom stuffing and braised greens alongside spiced pumpkin & vanilla baked alaska (with candied pumpkin Seeds) and bourbon pecan pie with maple ice cream. The Mayflower

What better place to stuff yourself on a Thanksgiving meal than at the original mooring point of The Pilgrim Fathers’ Mayflower Ship? If you want a 17th century kind of evening with vistas of The Thames and the cargo ships it carries, then this is where you should be docking. The menu, which comes in at £28.95 a head, is a simple roast turkey with sage stuffing, sweet potato mash and veg or a roasted vegetable nut roast. Both are bookended by roasted pumpkin soup and pumpkin or pecan pie. Thanksgiving cuisine doesn’t need to be revolutionary to be epic. E-mail for a booking.

Royal China

This is not your prototypical American Thanksgiving as would be portrayed on a sitcom (food-wise and decor-wise), but there will be pumpkin, and that is certainly a start. The spread will be unique, mildly autumnal and mildly reminiscent of the holiday we're all making such a fuss about. The unconventional festivities will begin with almond-flavoured pumpkin soup with crabmeat, continued with an empress chicken with ginger and spring onion and concluded with apple in toffee syrup. Sold.

Lincoln Chilli

Matt Glassman, who was born and bred in Virginia, is one of the brains behind this operation where chilli will be making more than a cameo appearance for the Thanksgiving holiday and beyond. Your welcome cocktail will be a fittingly titled 'Smoky the Pilgrim' (fresh cranberries, ginger reduction and mezcal) and the feast will be mostly rooted in tradition, although slightly altered. Think Virginia sliders (Smithfield Pork Belly, homemade cilantro aioli, sweet heirloom tomato and purple onion), flights of chilli with homemade sage cornbread with garlic butter and bacon jam and homemade pumpkin pie.

The Diner

They're all about Americana all year round at this joint, so you know they're gonna be all over Thanksgiving. But instead of sticking to tradition, they're decided to go a bit off-piste, deep fry the sh*t out of everything and throw Poutine in for good measure. Why not? At all locations you'll find their epic Turkey Frito Pie (slashed bag of Fritos topped with sour cream, guac and shredded turkey), Fried Mozzarella Sticks, Pigs in Blankets and Waffle Gobbler (crisp fried turkey burger topped with cranberries and cream cheese sauce encased in sweet potato waffles). Not quite enough for gastric bypass surgery, but just that special amount for some mild heartburn and very much worth it.
