Where to Get Your Rum On - BarChick's Top 5 Rum Hangouts

Listen up people – it’s National Rum Punch day this weekend. Sure, all these ‘national’ days are a bit whack, but they're a good excuse to celebrate and in this case drink rum, so go get into it. Here’re our top 5 places to get a hit of the good stuff…

Trader Vics

Hidden below The Park Lane Hotel, is a bar of happiness. This is the first tiki bar in London and its sister bar in San Francisco created the Mai Tai… so basically it’s the godfather of tiki. On weekdays it’s pretty quiet, but come the weekend this bar seriously lets its hair down. Pitchers of tropical tipples, more rum than you can shake a stick at and a treasure map of tasting cocktails if you really want to do it properly. They also fire up the Chinese wood-fired ovens and dish out food from all over the globe to soak it up with.

Artesian at The Langham Hotel

Less about the flaming drinks, tiki shirts and slamming of shots, The Artesian is where to go if you’re looking for a more refined rum experience. Hidden amongst the oriental décor and well-heeled guests, you’ll find two things: rum and fun. The cocktail menu is next-level and comes in Classics, Unfolding and Exploring and Innovation, and they will all blow your mind just a little bit. Kick things off with a Missionary Downfall with Banks Rum, pineapple, peach, lime, mint and honey, it’s awesome.

Trailer Happiness

Looking for some badass tiki action? These guys blaze up the bar every single night – so if, like BarChick, you aren’t afraid to party on a Monday then climb down the stairs with your head held high. It’s like a retro-chic, tiki caravan down here and we love it! If you really want to do it right then kick things off with the Don Zombie – it’s made with nine rums and will get the party started faster than you can say tiki. Oh and if you’re really serious about the stuff then join their monthly Rum Club, you’ll be an expert in no time.

The Rum Kitchen

The clue’s in the title with this one, of course these guys are all over it. They’ve got two joints in town and they ain’t afraid to party hard. Get a table with your mates and tuck into curried mutton, jerk chicken and saltfish fritters and then head down into the cellar for some rum time. They’ve got over 100 rums down there and they know what to do with them, whether you like it in a punch or straight up, get stuck in and get down to the DJ. Worry about the rest tomorrow.

Cottons Rhum Shack

This rum collection is insane. They’ve got nearly 250 types of rum, but it changes every day depending on who drank what and what has landed that day from their Caribbean rum shack. This bar is super chilled out and is all about the good times, and it gets a little crazy at the weekends when the DJ hits the decks. Get stuck in during their happy hour and make sure you have at least one Cotton’s Punch, it’s epic trust us. Plus they’ve got some good food to keep you dancing… if you can handle the spice.
