Your March 2015 Bar Guide

From hot new openings to our favourite spots opening up new joints in different parts of town, this month has got it going on! Keep your finger on the pulse people; here’s where to book into this month, from pop-ups and parties to everything inbetween.

New Openings

The Ivy Chelsea Garden - 2nd March Combining total sophistication with total glam and friendly, down to earth vibes, the Kings Road’s newest hotspot will be badass and totally British. Expect a bar, bar lounge, café, restaurant, orangery, terrace and garden - something for everyone. 197 King’s Road, London, SW3 5ED The Woodstock Shopped off your feet in the west end? This Japanese pub will have your back. There’ll be Japanese drinks like sake, soju, Japanese beer and shochu, and twenty different types of grilled skewers along the lines of pork belly and soft shell crab. And starting at £2.50 the good news is that you can try them all! 11 Woodstock Street, London, W1C 2AE London Cocktail Club - Islington - 2nd March There ain’t no stopping the guys behind the London Cocktail Clubs. Bringing their 5th venue into the mix, Islington’s getting a new speakeasy. This one’s got a pharmacy theme, complete with an “Apothecary Off-Licence” shop front to disguise what you’ll actually find behind it. As usual they’ll be making some badass cocktails and it’ll even have its own tasting room for you to get stuck into masterclasses and no doubt much more. Out back is A&E (Alcohol & Entertainment)… safe to say it’ll all be very LCC and we know that means fun. 108 Essex Road, Islington, London LCC Milroy's  - 5th March BarChick’s always bought booze from Milroys and now London’s oldest whisky shop is boasting a banging basement cocktail bar. Pick up some bottles and get downstairs to get on it. 3 Greek Street, London, W1D 4NX The Cross Keys - 5th March This old Chelsea pub, once home to drinkers like The Rolling Stones and Bob Marley, has kicked out the squatters and is re-opening its doors at the beginning of March. The menu will be bursting with seasonal produce, pub classics and everyone’s favourite bar snacks like Scotch eggs and Welsh rarebit. 1 Lawrence Street, London, SW3 5NB Big Fernand - 10th March These guys had us at French burgers. These opened up in Paris a couple of years ago and now have eight joints, so they must be doing something right. We can’t wait to get our lips around one, and with over 3,000 possible combinations we’re sure you’ll find your perfect burger (after five years of trying!). French wine aplenty too. 19 Percy Street, London, W1T 1DY Vinoteca - 10th March (soft launch with 50% off until 19th) For all those of you out there who like a spot of wine tasting on a first date, this is the perfect place. Opening in King’s Cross, this will be their biggest venue yet with an outdoor terrace, a big wine shop and even a breakfast menu. Get your tokens and get tasting. One Pancras Square, King’s Cross, London VINOTECA Patron Kentish Town are getting a sweet French wine bar and restaurant, bringing a little slice of Paris to North London. They will be serving all your favourite French dishes like escargot, steak tartare and Camembert fondue. There’ll be a well-stocked cellar filled with French wine as well as a few cocktails. 26 Fortress Road, London, NW5 2HB The Richmond - 20th March Opening up in Hackney, Brett from popular Borough Market hotspot Elliot’s, will be opening up The Richmond in Hackney alongside Margaret Crow, one of the queens of the fashpack. The menu will feature snacks, comfort and raw dishes and we’ll be there making light work of the Negronis on tap. 316 Queensbridge Road, London, E8 3NH 5cc Singer Tavern - 26th March East London is getting a hot new cocktail bar in 5cc, we're already all over their other four venues for boozing and schmoozing in, so bring on this one.  Singer Tavern, 1 City Road EC1Y 1AG. Ceviche Old Street - 30th March We’re big fans of Ceviche in Soho and Andina in Shoreditch, and are super happy that Martin Morales is opening up a second Ceviche in Old Street. There’ll be a ceviche bar, a Peruvian rotisserie and a charcoal BBQ grill. Plus you can get your pisco on in the bar which will also feature craft beer and Peruvian snacks. Old Street, 2 Baldwin Street, London, EC1V 9NU ceviche Top Dog Soho is getting another hot dog joint following the success of Bubbledogs and its queues around the block. These guys are all about US hot dogs, hot fries and cold shakes. Choose from different meats and different buns. Woof! 48 Frith Street, London, W1D 4SF Boom Burger South London you’re in luck - Boom Burger will be opening their doors in your hood, roll up for Jamaican inspired burgers, plantain fries and salt fish fritters all washed down with Boom juice and cocktails. 1 Brixton Station Road, London, SW9 8PA boom.burger    

Things to Book

The Pinot Party - 16th March Wanna get your Pinot Noir on? The wonderful wine host James Wills will guide you through this sexy little grape at The Merchant’s Tavern in Shoreditch. There’ll be a three course meal to soak up the six wines on offer too. £69 / person. Sager + Wilde meet The Typing Room - 18th March These guys are joining forces to bring you a collaborative wine dinner for one night only. There will be an eight course tasting menu by brilliant chef Lee Westcott with Californian wines chosen wine gurus the Sager-Wildes. £150 / person. Lobster Supper Club – 13th March Lobster lover? Who isn’t? This supper is just as serious about the kings of the crustaceans as you are. There’ll be a delicious lobby, prawn mango and avo salad to start with followed by lobster ravioli and a chocolate fondant to finish (with thankfully no lobster in it!). All to be washed down with fine wines. Cheers! £30 / person Bermondsey Microbrewery Craft Beer Tasting Experience Walk – 28th March Beer head? This is the tour for you. Drink your way around Bermondsey as you discover several exciting microbreweries. Kicking things off at 1pm at Tower Bridge you’ll head straight to the Bermondsey Beer Mile with your expert tour guide. £25

Pop Ups

Annie the Owl No luck pulling birds? Well Annie the Owl and her pals – including a goddamn pageant owl no less – are flapping about in Soho for a week in their own pop up bar. You have to enter to get the chance to hang with Annie and her mates because the internet has already totally lost its sh*t over the whole thing. All proceeds go to The Barn Owl Centre charity so you’ll be raising cash for good as well making some flighty pals. It’s bound to be a hoot! (Sorry…). Location to be revealed to lucky winners // 18th – 25th March, 8pm – 2am owl (1) The Spirit Social The Duppy Share, one of our fave rum companies are rocking a brand new event featuring four of the newest distils the industry’s got to give for a night of boozing, eating and live music sessions. They’ve taken over Notting Hill’s Maxilla Hall Social Club to pack it with street food, amazing spirits and tunes for a banging night in W10. This’ll be popping up every second Thursday but the first one is in March, baby! Lovers of lava lamps, shag-piles, beige and retro boozing, this one’s for you. The Art of Dining have whipped up a vintage inspired experience of theatre, music, set design and heaps of funk. The food will be classic 70s but with a twist so it’s not all cheese and pineapple on cocktail sticks, and the drinks will keep you going ‘til it’s 2015 again. Get your flares on and go get some. Hit Bethnal Green, get your hands on Jerk Pork Rolls and Curried Mutton Shepherd’s Pie goodness and get rollin’ to rare groove and disco beats. Boom. The Star of Bethnal Green, London E2 6LG // Launches 26th Feb til 30th May from 6pm The Bottle Shop Craft beers are so hot right now so it’s a good job Bermondsey’s own craft beer company is setting up shop at the Love and Scandal coffee shop and serving up small batch beers from around the world.
