You need an EasyCard. It's like a Taiwanese Oyster Card but you can use it in shops as well as on transport. The 7-Elevens here have pretty much everything you need. Take an umbrella. There’s a reason most people carry one everywhere: Taiwan is both intensely sunny and rainy. An umbrella has you (literally) covered for all eventualities.
