As soon as we walked into this pocket-sized dream bar, we were making friends. We don’t know what happened, but it didn’t stop until we stumbled home in the early hours with our new Dutch gang in tow. This neighbourhood joint has seriously welcoming vibes, some of the best cocktails in town and scores high in the style stakes.

Hiding in Plain Sight was a brown café before globetrotting Argentine gent Guillermo Gonzales and his gorgeous wife Vera Magagnini took over and turned it into this speakeasy style joint. It feels like the roaring twenties never ended here. Guillermo will usually be behind the bar sporting a pair of braces and a Dali ‘tache, which fits right in with the vintage style. Downstairs is mainly bar seating, but head to the upstairs hideaway to lounge on leather seats, and admire the bookshelves of oddities from mounted butterflies to antique picture frames.

It’s the crafted cocktails however, that make it stand out. The dozen ever-changing creative concoctions, displayed in illustrated ‘editions’ of their bound menu, each come in their own unique vessel. HPS also collaborates with local chefs to host events from their Boozy Brunch on Sundays to a night of burgers and ‘alchy’ milkshakes. They recently teamed up with awesome meat restaurant Gebr. Hartering down the road to serve gastro garnishes with drinks, such as pouring whisky through bone marrow. Swoon.
