Tunes Bar

BARCHICK SAYS

Okay, the name makes it sound like a disco in a cheesy resort town full of pink-faced men in flip-flops and England shirts. This could not be further from the truth. It’s called Tunes because it’s located in a former music conservatory, and what is now the most luxurious hotel in town. Madonna has her own suite – need we say more?

Designed by Piero Lissoni, Italy’s leading architect and interior designer, this place has instant wow factor. They’ve built a glass conservatory on the back of this 19th century Neo-Gothic building, which stretches its full height. This is a lovely spot for a quiet glass of wine with lots of business meetings taking place between the greenery.

For a proper drink, head along the atmospheric corridors down to Tunes Bar. The floor-to-ceiling windows are shuttered keeping it in a state of permanent moody twilight. Lissoni designed the back bar too: transparent and towering it’s illuminated as the focus of the whole room. The rest of the bar is chic, dark and modern with leather booths and an upstairs smoking room. They have an intimidating list of gin cocktails with eight gin and tonics alone, and every Wednesday eve they’ll explore one in particular. If you ask nicely, they’ll talk you through their list of gins with a little tasting thrown in. Thank you, kindly!
