Sunset views, sculpted gardens, flowers and exceptional wine. Pretty damn romantic. Mudbrick Vineyard on Waiheke Island comes with its own cute back-story too: a husband and wife team who wanted to get away from the big city, and boom, they created a little bit of magic and some great wines to boot.

But we’re not here for romance: the food is good, the staff are friendly and there’s wine to be had. They say booking isn’t needed but we recommend it judging by how busy they are during high season. Open from 10am until late over the summer, rock up early and get busy tasting throughout the day.
