Brody Studios

BARCHICK SAYS

The Brody Empire is as cool as it gets if you’re looking to eat, drink, sleep and play under one roof in Budapest. First up, it’s technically members only, but consider that a challenge. If you stay at Brody House in the eight-room boutique hotel or Brody Apartments you’re guaranteed access to the Studios throughout your stay, and you can easily secure entry if you’re interested in joining (and believe us, you will be).

Inside the three-storey ruin building / playground is a sexy little snug with a fire downstairs, a private cinema and a beautiful courtyard outside for eating or a cheeky cigarette. Swing by the ground floor bar and tell the bartender exactly what you feel like drinking, and he’ll get it spot on, as will the guys on the floor above.

Upstairs you’ll find more diners tucking in around cosy tables to a backdrop of cracked walls, art by the resident artists and candlelit cosiness. Sit at the bar and get a lesson in palinka, the fiery local spirit, or take things to the balcony and drink a toast to the courtyard naughtiness below. As the night goes on and the DJ takes things up a notch you’ll get as happily ruined as the building itself.
