Ping Pong 129

BARCHICK SAYS

Say hola to the hottest spot in the hipster-breeding ground of Sai Ying Pun: Ping Pong 129 is the first Spanish Gintoneria in Hong Kong, and this secret bar is making itself heard. Keep an eye out for the neon ping pong bat on the hidden red door; we definitely did not walk straight past it… ahem.

Down the steep staircase you’ll come to a hall that used to be a Chinese ping pong training ground, filled with 70s-style furniture and awesome artwork. Above the huge marble bar hangs a “Train Your Body” sign in Cantonese, though with over 70 types of gin on offer the only one working out round here was our liver. Each G&T is served in the traditional Spanish balloon glass with a carefully selected tonic and garnish. We had a zesty Xoriguer Gin de Mahon and Fever-Tree with mint and lemon and a delicious Gin Gimlet made with homemade lime cordial.

This place is packed with Hong Kong’s best looking crowd, so consider the gym shorts and sweatbands optional.
