The Peninsula Hotel is one of Hong Kong's oldest, grandest and most glamorous establishments and its primary bar, The Bar, encapsulates these same qualities. With dark wooden panelling, soft leather seating and jazz in the background, this intimate spot is perfect for a pre-dinner drink or a relaxed nightcap. In fact, the bar menu is so damn tasty you could stay here all night if you fancied/could afford the bill at the end. Yikes.

Cocktails are expertly made and the wine list is as extensive as you’d expect, the whisky list is exceptional too. This isn’t the place for big rowdy gangs – the fewer people the better as it's not a huge space, and it’s designed for smaller, more intimate groups. It's a world away and a great escape from the endless hustle and bustle of Kowloon's TST just a few streets below. Do it, just take the plastic.
