BARCHICK SAYS

A European-style brasserie in a restored, 10,000 sq ft. Victorian gentlemen’s club, this place is every bit as decadent as it sounds and we’re into it.

Variety is a key part of this urban experience: two restaurants, a bar and four sneaky bedrooms for those with an all-night agenda. Tailor made for entertaining, Banjo retains features of the historic site without a sign of the sort of archaic douchiness that probably went down here. Staff are fresh-faced and pride themselves on ‘wonderful Jersey hospitality’, totes adorable.

The cocktail bar is akin to a 70s themed aviary and there’s an air of serenity to the casual atmosphere. As the conservatory darkens and the nightlights come out, Banjo struts its stuff to a more-lively pace. BarChick drank a Pear and Port Collins and a Planter’s Punch (the only place in Jersey you’ll find it on the menu) until the early hours. Avoid the heavy-drinking crowds and riotous hen- dos that prowl the town and be met instead with passion, flair and good service.
