South London agave lovers are about to have their tequila-fuelled dreams come true. Dalston's award-winning Agaveria, Hacha, is making the move down the Vicky Line and setting up bar (and shop!) in the heart of Brixton Market.
Hacha's South London sequel is gonna have parallels to some aspects of its East London OG (think the migration of their iconic Mirror Margarita along with a continuation of nods to chic Mexican aesthetics - not a sombrero or maraca in sight), but for this new venture, tequila icon Deano Moncrieff and his kick-ass partner in biz and life Emma Murphy are setting their sights on serving up a dose of philanthropy alongside that infamous revolving selection of 25 agave spirits on the back wall.
The power couple is putting underprivileged members of BAME communities at the top of their priority list at Hacha Brixton, but it's not like they're strangers to championing equality. They founded the Equal Measures project in 2020 to raise awareness of diversity and inclusion in the drinks industry, and they're mirroring that in the ethos of this sh*t hot new bar by providing employment opportunities, education, mentorship and paid work experience to out-of-work members of the Equal Measures scheme. Legends.
As well as a bar on the first floor of these Market Row digs (which will be serving up Hacha twists on Mexican classic cocktails and food from the same Maíz Azul team found on the Kingsland Road), they're also bringing a shop to the ground floor. They're calling it a "Mini Bar Experience" where you can buy flights and bottles of the best tequilas and mezcals alongside a range of those Mirror Margs, including some new infusions we can't wait to get on our lips.
Hacha Brixton will open on Market Row in August 2021.
