The Lowback

A floating bar in the middle of the city? Hawksmoor has done it again

Any carnivore worth their canines will already know how they roll at Hawksmoor: the best steaks in London, Sunday roasts that could bring a tear to your eye, and beef dripping chips that'll mean you never look at a fry in the same way again. But their bars deserve just as much recognition, yo, and The Lowback is Hawksmoor’s most ambitious bar yet. With a nine-metre-long copper-topped bar, dark green marble floor, polished timber ceiling and velvet booths to enjoy their brand new cocktail list, this awesome new bar is not to be skipped. And yes, it floats.

You wouldn't (and shouldn't) expect anything less than perfect bar snacks from these guys. Hit up the salt beef nugs or get a taste of luxury with their bone marrow oysters. No one will judge you for licking the shells clean. It's worth it. Then it's time to hit the Martinis. They freeze theirs to minus 15°C and hold them in thermos flasks to make sure that first sip is perfect every time. They've got a whole menu's worth, but we say go for the Pink Gibson (Absolut Elyx, Audemus Umami Gin, Aperitivo Co. Dry Vermouth & Pink Pickled Onion). The savoury notes that dance with the sweetness from the pickle are *chef's kiss*. When the sun shines, head to the sundeck out the front of this floating pavilion and kick back with another Martini on one of their water-side loungers. Stay there till the sun dips behind the Canary Wharf skyscrapers and you'll feel like the Wolf of Wall Street living the high life.
