BARCHICK SAYS

'60s shag pad meets Notting Hill chic

Notting Hill has always been a trendy neighbourhood, but did it just get *gasp* even cooler?! Fresh on the scene is Caia - a wine bar, restaurant and hip hangout space with a '60s-style basement, shag-pad vibes and great music.

Upstairs you can warm yourself by the open flames of the kitchen as chefs knock out some insane dishes - think octopus with burnt pepper and nduja crumbs, and lamb belly with aubergine purée and grilled runner beans. You can sit at the kitchen bar with a cocktail and watch the magic happen, or descend into the basement for something a little sexier. Kitsch light fittings, a glowing fireplace, funky upholstered cushioned seats… it’s groovy, baby.

Are there any finer pleasures than music, wine and food (apart from the obvious…)? Well, Caia has these three nailed at least. The wine menu is carefully curated to showcase innovative and eager young producers (need advice? Ask Florent: he’s the man with a plan). The vinyl collection has been selected by Stranger Than Paradise Records founder Noreen McShane, and the restaurant hosts DJs each weekend (plus if you’re into music, the speakers and record player will make you drool as much as the food). Whether you’re going for seductive subterranean vibes or bang-in-the-action fun, then prepare to pop Caia at the top of your list of fave new spots.
