The Boisdale is a labyrinth of wood panelled walls, tartan, leather and manliness so if it’s a highland fling you’re after you’ve come to the right place. Negotiate your way past the band stand, through the many rooms of diners pigging out on haggis, past the beautiful Back Bar (even if you only make it this far you won’t be disappointed) – then finally up the stairs and outside to the very comfortable Cigar Bar. Grab a sofa, spark up cigarettes/cigars/your best one liners or on cold nights cop a feel under the tartan cashmere blankets. If you can take your eyes off each other, get lost in the cocktail menu: a beautifully written bible of cocktail recipes and quotes from our favourite boozehounds like Churchill, Hemingway and Homer J Simpson (of course). The cocktails are all classic and usually flawless (try the Tequila Sour with Don Julio Anejo Tequila), and if all that’s not enough then head downstairs to soak it all up with some haggis or after dinner live jazz, nightly from 10pm – your chance to dance across the tartan carpets and embrace your inner Rob Roy.
